Milwaukee, December 4: Show Up, Speak Up: Fire and Police Commission Meeting

EVENT: http://tinyurl.com/ou889wn

Dontre Hamilton was shot 14 times by Milwaukee Police Officer Christopher Manney on April 30 2014. It has been 7 months since he murdered Dontre but he has yet to be taken into custody and charged for his crimes. Enough is enough. It is time to show up, and time to speak out.

The fire and Police Commission is the governing body of the police force in the city of Milwaukee. They have the direct authority to give former officer Manney his job back. Lets show up and let them know that this can not happen, and that our community is against officers having free reign to kill innocent black men in our city!

Please join The Coalition for Justice as we go and let the FPC know exactly how we feel about this injustice and the many that have taken place like it. We will meet at Red Arrow Park (1000 N. Water St.) at 5pm, for a small rally and head over to the meeting inside city hall. Please Join Us.

Note: The Meeting is subject to a change in time and location. To stay updated please follow us on Facebook, Twitter @Justice4Dontre, or give us a call at: 414.375.9330.

Milwaukee, December 18: Colecta para Ayotzinapa (Fundraiser)

EVENT: http://tinyurl.com/oydgo8g

(English Below)

Comrades, at this time the majority of our people here in Milwaukee are aware of the situation not only in Guerrero, but also throughout the Mexican country. The normalistas, parents, citizens, workers, intellectuals, students, and artists have fought a great fight for justice that has reached every corner of Mexico.

And to us here as the northern neighbors, what is our role? It is our duty to support and keep the struggle alive in this country. Many of those who come from Mexico, come because of the issues that are currently being protested. Now unfortunately the government (at all levels) has exposed its corruption shown in Iguala, and the Mexican communities have said, ENOUGH! It is also a duty for us paisanos and friends of the Mexican people to contribute to this honorable struggle.

This invitation is open to those who want to support the struggle in Mexico, rural school in Ayotzinapa, and parents to participate in this collection.

There will be food, music, art and information. We only ask for a contribution of $10 per adult and $5 for children to enter.

UW Madison, December 3: Film Screening: “Occupation: The Story of the Harvard Living Wage Sit-In”

EVENT: http://tinyurl.com/mvfkvql

As the campaign for higher wages and job security at UW Madison continues to gather steam, join the Campus Worker Coalition for a screening and discussion of “Occupation,” a 2002 documentary about a successful living wage campaign led by workers and students at Harvard. What tactics and demands did it take to win meaningful victories for campus workers? What lessons can we learn from this struggle? How best can we force the administration to recognize that it’s time for UW Madison to invest in its workers?

FILM SYNOPSIS: “A dynamic story of how students and immigrant janitors took on—and defeated—one of the most powerful corporations in the world. At a time when the university’s endowment tripled and it enjoyed a more than $100 million budget surplus, Harvard busted unions and cut the pay and benefits of its lowest paid and most vulnerable workers. Occupation documents the historic three-week sit-in by the Harvard Living Wage Campaign which won unprecedented gains for low-wage workers at the world’s richest university, and catapulted the living wage movement to the center of national attention.”

42 min. Directed by Maple Razsa and Pacho Velez. Narrated by Ben Affleck.
