Racine, July 25, 2020: BLACK LIVES MATTER – STOP RACIST U.S. WARS! Protest at Dr. Martin Luther King Plaza

From Elaine Marie Kinch for the Racine Coalition for Peace and Justice:

This Saturday, July 25, 2020 we will be present at the Dr. Martin Luther King Plaza, flying our new BLACK LIVES MATTER banner from 10 am to 11 am. at Dr. Martin Luther King Plaza in Racine (State Street & Dr. King Drive). We will also have our STOP RACIST WARS banner, for most U.S. wars are against people of color——be it here, in the Middle East, or in Latin American countries.

Over 30 of those wars by the U.S. are economic blockades of medicine, food, and vital equipment.  These sanctions cause suffering and death, so we will have our END THE BLOCKADES, U.S. OUT OF CUBA AND PUERTO RICO! banner.

We will social distance as we hold our banners, and we will have signs available for Palestine living under the racist and violent occupation of Israel. Please wear masks. Thank you.

DO JOIN US!

Sister Bay, WI, July 24, 2020: NO RIOT GEAR IN DOOR COUNTY

NO RIOT GEAR IN DOOR COUNTY

“Adopt a Soldier Door County, a Sturgeon Bay-based nonprofit organization, has offered to donate $10,000 to the Sheriff’s Office to pay for the helmets and shields that the office requested and that the county finance committee voted down last month.” Door County Knock https://doorcountyknock.com/2020/07/as-protesters-call-for-defunding-police-sheriff-calls-for-discourse?fbclid=IwAR1BizVxUycxH_Fpnitg0kKODfmc6i3AR_6fAYSQTlhKmPVLmEDLWlEJvvM

After the county finance committee voted down this ask (for non-financial reasons,) the donation has recently been approved by the public safety committee. This is despite an unprecedented flood of dissented calls from the public:

“This is an especially egregious and unnecessarily antagonistic action, as it coincides with the largest civil rights movement the world has seen to date,” our petition with over 500 signatures states. “This military-grade weaponry only serves to escalate situations, while targeting U.S. citizens.”

We reject the idea that our public safety can be bought through private organizations with their own agenda. We also acknowledge that real change comes from civil disobedience.

We will be in Sister Bay from 11am-2pm this 07/22-0724. Brings your own sign, a mask, and friends. We will have water and extra signs and music.

Hosted by Black Lives Matters Solidarity Sister Bay

Racial Politics in Georgia and the Presidential Elections

…. This legacy of voter suppression, a key component in the nationally oppressive apparatus of the capitalist state in the U.S., portends much for the upcoming elections in November 2020 where Trump is seeking a second term of office. The same Georgia governor responsible for the disenfranchisement of hundreds of thousands of voters in 2018 when he served as Secretary of State, is now presiding over the polls which will determine whether his political ally in the White House remains in that position.

The Democratic Party candidate Joe Biden has said next to nothing on the important questions of voter suppression and racist state violence against the African American people. Biden’s main talking point: that he is not Donald Trump and therefore will “heal the nation” may not be enough to motivate the African American voters who are concerned with the rising rates of COVID-19 infections in their communities along with the mounting unemployment rates and its consequent evictions, foreclosures and homelessness.

Even with an enthusiastic electorate embodying a disdain for the policies of the Trump administration, if the right to vote is not guaranteed by local, state and federal governments the potential for a continuation of the current administration is quite possible. What is needed is the independent mobilization and organization of the people, the potential of which has been illustrated in the mass demonstrations and rebellions in recent months.
