Allies Teach-In: Understanding Black Lives Matter

Join us this Thursday, July 2 at 4:30 at East High School for a teach in about Black Lives Matter. Learn more about the history behind the movement and explore movement strategy as well as our role and responsibilities as allies in the movement for Black Lives.

Black people in Madison have long been under attack, and recent events – from a white man driving his truck over Alize Carter, to the violent arrest of protesters, to a white man who literally set Althea Bernstein on fire as she sat in her car – reveals a white supremacist backlash against the movement for Black lives and an intensifying of the danger Black people face in our city.

It is far beyond time for white people in Madison to step up and do our part in defending Black life. Join us Thursday to learn about Freedom Inc’s demands and why it is imperative that we follow their lead and center the voices of groups like Urban Triage and others from communities most impacted by state violence.

“No one is free until all of us are free,” and the time is now to act!

Oshkosh, July 4, 2020: Black Dreams Matter! Protest for freedom and equality!

Black Dreams Matter! Protest for freedom and equality!

4 P.M. – Oshkosh Sun Dial

On July 4th at 4pm, come and chant with Black Lives Matter activists and supporters for a while in between your plans (If you celebrate the 4th that is!) to let Oshkosh know that “Freedom” should be for ALL not just the wealthy and white! Black people built this country and deserve to enjoy the fruit of their labor that the generations before them worked and died for. Millions continue to work today. And yet, they still continue to die at the hands of racism. We can’t truly be free until we uproot the racism that was planted here.

Do you think this is the land of the free?

https://bit.ly/31HU6Lg

“,,,, This is the story of Mike Jackson. Mike was born on April 14th, 1975 all those that knew and loved him affectionately knew him as Big Mike. For the past year and a half Mr. Jackson was a member of the united steel workers local union 2-232 and employed as an assembler for Briggs & Stratton at their Burleigh headquarters located in Wauwatosa, WI. Micheal Jackson was a hard working husband and father of eight who was determined to lead and provide for his family by any means necessary. Micheal, along with his co workers worked within close confines on the assembly line in the Briggs & Stratton generator department. Throughout the pending pandemic Micheal and his co workers were asked to work more hours at an exhausting rate to help keep product pumping out the door for Briggs & Stratton, a company that produces small engine lawn mowers and pressure washers. Mike, along with his co workers were extremely upset that they were deemed as essential workers during the pandemic when the product that they produce is not at all essential to public health and safety….”
