All are invited to come and participate in the 30th GarveyFest Celebration here in Milwaukee sponsored by Africans on the Move (AOM).  This year’s GarveyFest theme is “Celebrating Thirty Years of GarveyFest:  We Couldn’t Have Done It without You!”  AOM is very thankful that GarveyFest will be held at the historic Wisconsin African-American Women’s Center (WAAWC), 3020 W. Vliet Street.

This year’s theme, “Celebrating Thirty Years of GarveyFest:  We Couldn’t Have Done It without You!” celebrates those who have consistently supported GarveyFest for many years, including organizations and institutions such as Running Rebels, Urban Underground, N’COBRA, The Milwaukee Times, Black Health Coalition of Wisconsin, the Wisconsin African-American Women’s Center, the Nation of Islam and many more.

It is a two-day celebration.  On Friday, August 16, 2019, the Pan-African Social will be held from 6-9 p.m. inside the Wisconsin African-American Women’s Center.  The Pan-African Social is a family party/gala with conscious music, dancing, conscious Karaoke and Hors D’Oeuvres.  Let’s dress in African attire, if we can.  Children, Teens, Adults—all are welcome.

Bring your lawn chairs on Saturday, August 17, 2019.  The celebration will take place from 1-5 p.m. on the grounds of the Wisconsin African-American Women’s Center. Long-time supporters of GarveyFest will be honored and attendees will enjoy a cultural showcase, demonstrations, conscious fashion show and more.  Experience the delicious foods for sale and the many products offered by a variety of vendors at our African Marketplace.  It’s a family affair!  Bring the children to our Children’s Arena for science, art and history activities as well as free snacks and school supplies.

ALL EVENTS ARE FREE AND OPEN TO THE PUBLIC!  In case of rain, the Saturday event will be held inside the Wisconsin African-American Women’s Center.

Freedom Rider: The Trump and Pelosi Lovefest

Margaret Kimberley, BAR editor and senior columnist, 17 Jul 2019

Trump and Pelosi are birds of a feather when it comes to beating up on dissident women of color.

“Pelosi probably rose in Trump’s estimation when she dismissed her brown skinned caucus members.”

In 2007 this columnist declared that Nancy Pelosi is our enemy. She was the new Speaker of the House after Democrats emerged victorious in the 2006 elections. But they didn’t oppose George W. Bush and the Republicans the way their voters wanted them to. Little has changed since that time. Democrats mobilize in order to defeat the Republicans but still end up with snake in the grass leadership like Pelosi.

Representatives Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez, Ayanna Pressley, Rashida Tlaib and Ilhan Omar dissented and voted against the latest compromise with Republicans to fund Trump’s immigration enforcement. Immigration is supposed to be a litmus test issue which sharply differentiates Democrats from Republicans. But that is not how the game is really played.

“Like a true gangster Pelosi conducted the beatdown in public.”

Pelosi trashed her members in an interview with the New York Times. “All these people have their public whatever and their Twitter world. But they didn’t have any following. They’re four people and that’s how many votes they got.” Like a true gangster Pelosi conducted the beatdown in public.

When Ocasio-Cortez truthfully stated that the remarks were disrespectful and showed a pattern of attacking women of color, Pelosi, the corporate media, Democratic party propagandists, and lap dog Congressional Black Congress (CBC) members all sprang into action. Gregory Meeks joined in ganging up on his colleagues and threatened Ocasio-Cortez with a primary challenge. Kamala Harris  weighed in with a seal of approval for Miss Nancy.

The bottom feeders’ attack was supported by none other than Donald Trump. “Cortez should treat Nancy Pelosi with respect. She should not be doing what she’s doing. She is not a racist,” said the man with very questionable credibility on the subject.

“Kamala Harris weighed in with a seal of approval for Miss Nancy.”

Trump knows that Pelosi is his friend. She is in no way part of an opposition to his administration. She is the rainmaker for the Democratic Party and the wielder of discipline against progressives. The two tasks are linked, of course. The very wealthy speaker brings in the cash from her equally wealthy friends. They give with the expectation that nothing even vaguely resembling progressive policy will ever see the light of day…. https://blackagendareport.com/freedom-rider-trump-and-pelosi-lovefest

Trump Racist Poison WI BOPM Placard April 24 2019

Farewell, Comrade Bruce

Danny Haiphong, BAR contributor, 10 Jul 2019

Bruce Dixon was anti-empire, anti-capitalist, and a champion of working-class Black America and the people at large.

“His organizing expertise is needed now more than ever in a period when leftist organizations are either non-existent, wed to the Democratic Party, or barely functioning.”

The year was 2013 and I was preparing to graduate from college. Like many in my age cohort, I was desperately seeking work that paid a living wage. My plan was to move back to my hometown of Cambridge, MA, support my father in retirement, and then move out. However, in the two years before my scramble for work, I had gone through a profound transformation of political consciousness. A combination of involvement in anti-racist activity, labor organizing, and Occupy Wall Street led me to wonder what exactly was missing from the fractured left. And Black Agenda Report was the only source that told the entire truth about the Obama era without pause or hesitation.

During my scramble for a wage, I came up for an interview with my local police department for a social work liaison position. It was the era of Snowden and Manning and I held an opportunistic idea that I could work from within the police department and uncover what I was sure would be many dark secrets about policing in America. Yet after reading the likes of Huey P. Newton, seeing how the police came down on Occupy Wall Street, and remembering my own racist encounters with the cops as a young person raised unsettling feelings about whether working to take down the police-state from the inside was strategically correct or necessary. I needed help, to say the least.

“Bruce’s radio commentary and articles were clearly and explicitly written to move the masses in an independent, working-class direction….”

Farewell, Comrade Bruce

Mumia Says He’s Going Blind

The nation’s best known political prisoner recently noticed “that I could no longer see a single face” among the “river of men passing by” in Pennsylvania’s Mahanoy prison. “I realized to my horror that I was functionally blind,” said Mumia Abu Jamal, who has spent 38 years of incarceration in the death of a Philadelphia cop. “My vision has become sp poor that I’ve used voices to recognize people, as a blind man does.”

San Francisco, August 10, 2019: On the Second Anniversary of Charlottesville, Protest at Nancy Pelosi’s Office

2nd Anniversary of Charlottesville: Act Against White Supremacy

𝗢𝗻 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝟮𝗻𝗱 𝗮𝗻𝗻𝗶𝘃𝗲𝗿𝘀𝗮𝗿𝘆 𝗼𝗳 𝗖𝗵𝗮𝗿𝗹𝗼𝘁𝘁𝗲𝘀𝘃𝗶𝗹𝗹𝗲, 𝗮s part of 𝗰𝗮𝗹𝗹 𝗳𝗼𝗿: 𝗡𝗮𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻𝗮𝗹 𝗗𝗮𝘆𝘀 𝗼𝗳 𝗔𝗰𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻 𝗔𝗴𝗮𝗶𝗻𝘀𝘁 𝗪𝗵𝗶𝘁𝗲 𝗦𝘂𝗽𝗿𝗲𝗺𝗮𝗰𝘆 – 𝗜𝗺𝗽𝗲𝗮𝗰𝗵 𝗧𝗿𝘂𝗺𝗽 𝗳𝗼𝗿 𝗛𝗮𝘁𝗲 𝗖𝗿𝗶𝗺𝗲𝘀!
We will rally at Congresswoman Nancy Pelosi’s office, Federal Building, 90 7th St, San Francisco.

We hold in our hearts the memory of anti-racist activist Heather Heyer and the dozens injured by the fascists in Charlottesville. While it was a Nazi thug who murdered Heather, it is the bigot-in-chief Donald Trump, endorser of the “very fine” Nazi and Klan scum, who has enshrined their genocidal ideology as his national policy against the disabled, the LGBTQ+ community, and all People of Color.

Migrants at our southern border, who are “engaged in a federally protected activity” of seeking asylum, are having their babies ripped from their parents arms, their children kidnapped and placed in cages, women forced to drink out of toilets. Cages are so crowded that no one can even lie on the floor. Food, soap, even toothbrushes are denied them, all on the orders from Trump because of their “race” and “national origin.” This meets the very definition of a federal hate crime multiplied thousands of times.

Trump is showing off his brutality “stripes” to his rich friends on Wall Street, to show them how tough he’ll be to those who oppose their cutbacks, like the dismantling of Obamacare. We’re supposed to fight over the scraps that they grant us. That’s why they’ve poured more than $100 million into Trump’s re-election campaign. We demand that Congress immediately impeach Trump for hate crimes and dump his whole gang of rich bigots!

Please message us to endorse this action. 2nd Anniversary of Charlottesville: Act Against White Supremacy
