Anti-abortion extremist hate group “Operation Save America” is spending the week of July 13-20th in Milwaukee to terrorize the independent abortion provider in town, and they are traveling to Madison on July 18th to meet with WI lawmakers about turning the state into the next Alabama. They’ll also be promoting their anti-LGBTQ+, anti-Islam, anti-immigrant garbage throughout the city. They will be met with the people’s resistance! Join Us!

This week, Trump announced that his long-delayed ICE raids would begin this weekend. These raids are not only meant to detain and deport thousands of immigrants, but they are also meant to strike fear into immigrant workers.

At Netroots Nation, the yearly gathering of liberal and progressive activists, union leaders Sara Nelson, President of the flight attendant’s union, and D. Taylor, President of UNITE HERE hosted a panel titled “Is It Time for a General Strike?” During the panel, both addressed the upcoming raids. Taylor, who represents hotel and hospitality workers and has a large immigrant population within his union’s ranks, blasted Trump’s decision. He referred to Trump’s plan as evil and said that this is a moment of truth for the labor movement. “If I see a press release on that and not direct action, what the hell are we talking about?” he said. “We’re not just gonna send a letter. We’ve gotta do action at every one of those hotels. We’ve gotta turn up the heat.” Taylor vowed that his union will take action against hotels that enter into contracts with ICE to house detainees. He also promised that UNITE HERE will not only be taking action in union strongholds like New York, California, Las Vegas and the border but rather they will take action across the entire country.

Nelson, whose call for a general strike during the government shutdown forced Congress to agree on a deal to re-open the government, emphasized that immigration is a union issue. She recalled Trump’s Muslim ban and how some of her flight attendants were detained and unable to work because of the ban.

Nelson and Taylor’s comments come as more unions are realizing that immigration is a union issue. “Announcing raids on immigrant communities is a clear and present danger to the workforces in the cities they are planned and support the tactics of the low wage employers in these areas,” said John Durso, the President of the 350,000 member Long Island Federation of Labor, AFL-CIO.

Rallies and vigils are planned for the next few days to oppose Trump’s policy and some organizations have put out guidelines on your legal rights when dealing with ICE, whether you are undocumented yourself, with an undocumented person, or the employer of an undocumented worker. A known hate group, Operation Save America (OSA) will be coming to Riverwest to harass drag queens reading to children and promote anti-LGBTQ+ bigotry.

They’re bringing another hate group, the Missionaries to the Preborn, who will be promoting anti-choice and anti-women’s rights rhetoric at Dontre Hamilton (Red Arrow) Park.

We’re standing up to them both.

On this day, five years ago, the Israeli occupation launched one of its deadliest military offensives against the Gaza Strip in recent history. The conflict left 2,251 people dead, with more than 11,000 wounded, according to Palestinian and UN sources. Five years on, Gaza is still subject to intense attacks by Israel as well as the ongoing blockade which has been enforced for more than 11 years.

What happened?

The Israeli military offensive on the Gaza Strip took place against the backdrop of a second Palestinian unity government being formed in early June by the Islamic Resistance Movement — Hamas — in the Gaza Strip and the Palestinian Authority in the West Bank. Threatened by the reconciliation between the two main Palestinian factions, Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu warned that the PA had to choose between peace with Hamas and peace with Israel.

Ten days later, on 12 June, three Israeli settlers went missing in the West Bank, an incident for which Israel blamed Hamas, despite providing no evidence to back the allegation. Netanyahu also stated that the kidnapping proved that the unity pact between the Palestinian factions could not be endorsed.

High ranking Hamas officials denied involvement and the PA attributed the abductions to the Qawasameh clan, a group within Hamas that has frequently acted against the party’s policies. Israeli historian Ilan Pappé has said that the motivation for the kidnapping was the murder of two Palestinian teenagers by Israeli forces in May 2014; the autopsy report which showed that the teens were killed by Israeli soldiers’ live fire had been made public the day before the kidnapping.

In the aftermath of the abduction, Israel launched a crackdown on alleged Hamas associates in the West Bank. Some 11 Palestinians were killed and dozens were wounded in the run up to 2 July, with hundreds arrested, many of whom had been freed in the Gilad Shalit prisoner exchange deal. The murder of a Palestinian teen by Israeli settlers then sparked widespread protests in the occupied territories. Israel also bombarded the Gaza Strip, prompting some minor rocket fire from various factions in the besieged enclave.

On Prime Day Tell Amazon: Stop Enabling ICE Raids – Support Amazon workers 

Despite horrific conditions at detention camps and the comparison of them to concentration camps, the richest man in the world Jeff Bezos continues to consolidate his wealth and power by profiting off of deportation and detention and exploiting Amazon workers.

New research shows that Amazon is helping ICE track, detain, and deport immigrants — in a big way. We’ve known that Amazon’s servers host Palantir, the company that provides ICE with “mission-critical services,” such as its case management software, and we’ve been pressuring Amazon to drop Palantir. But it turns out Amazon’s role in the deportation machine goes deeper than that.
Amazon isn’t the only tech company doing this, but it has the largest role. Through intense lobbying of policymakers and law enforcement officials, Amazon and Palantir have secured a role as the backbone for the federal government’s immigration and law enforcement dragnet.

Support Amazon Workers

Amazon warehouse workers in Shakopee, Minn., plan to strike for six hours on Prime Day to demand better work conditions.

The work stoppage is planned from 2 p.m. to 6 p.m. July 15. A “community rally” including workers and supporters is also planned outside Amazon’s warehouse in Shakopee.
Minnesota workers, most of them Somali and East African immigrants, will join co-workers from Seattle in the work stoppage.

Awood Executive Director Abdi Muse said in a statement that the work stoppage will be part of employees’ continued push to force “the corporate giant to provide safe & reliable jobs, increase respect and opportunities for advancement for the predominantly East African workforce.”

Striking workers are demanding the right to organize, and to work at normal speeds. They also are calling on Amazon to address critical issues like climate change. Minnesota employees are expected to be joined by Amazon technology workers from Seattle who have been lobbying the company to improve its environmental efforts and to do more to fight climate change.

On Prime Days, let’s send a message to Amazon: end profiting off the detention of migrants and refugees and end the abuse of Amazon workers.
