Waupaca, August 9, 2020: Rally For Equality!

Waupaca Rally For Equality

Main Street Waupaca, WI – 2-6 P.M.

WI let’s come together!

After watching one of our own get charged unjustly last weekend while exercising his 1st and 2nd amendment rights, its time we take it to the streets of Waupaca and unite together from all walks of life for our cause!

Lets spread the message of unity and equality through community and education.

This is a peaceful but passionate event. We want to amplify Black voices and hear from those from WI communities because racism is very much alive in WI and it’s time we call it out!

SEIU Drop the Cops

SEIU Drop the Cops

Welcome to Black August! We have worked hard to build the #SEIUDropTheCops movement and on this special day we are pleased to publicly announce our demands!!

DEMAND 1: SEIU DROP THE COPS

We demand SEIU drop cops from the union. We demand any job classification including law enforcement officers, jail and prison guards, probation officers, and armed security officers and their bargaining units, for example in the International Brotherhood of Police Officers and the International Brotherhood of Corrections Officers, be expelled from SEIU.

DEMAND 2: SEIU BEYOND POLICING AND PRISONS

We demand an SEIU beyond policing and prisons. We demand SEIU divest from campaigns organizing law enforcement officers, jail and prison guards, probation officers, and armed security officers. We demand SEIU invest in union organizing campaigns to protect, empower and expand sectors where workers prevent violence or harm as their work, such as essential workers, educators, healthcare workers, social workers, and food service workers. We demand a strong, unionized movement to eliminate policing, both as an action against the community and as a profession providing employment opportunities, to enact transformational social change beyond policing and prisons

SEIU Drop the Cops

DEMAND 3: LABOR DROP THE COPS

We demand labor drop the cops. We demand that SEIU fight to expel the International Brotherhood of Police Officers and other law enforcement officers, jail and prison guards, probation officers, and armed security officers bargaining units, such as the Fraternal Order of Police, Police Benevolent Association and International Union of Police Associations, from labor councils on which SEIU locals participate.

DEMAND 4: SEIU DROP COP CANDIDATES

We demand SEIU drop cop candidates. We demand SEIU provide no support to any political candidate who accepts donations from law enforcement officers, jail and prison guards, probation officers, and armed security officers locals or who intends to act against defunding the police or the platform of the Movement for Black Lives while in office.

DEMAND 5: SEIU FOR BLACK LIVES

We demand an SEIU for Black lives. We demand SEIU acknowledge in word and action the centrality of being in solidarity with Black workers and communities to the labor movement. We demand SEIU adopt the Movement for Black Lives platform as an organizing goal and concretely enact the platform through its labor and political organizing.

Waupaca: Drop All Charges Against Matthew Banta! Protesting Racist Police Terror Is Not a Crime!

Follow up on our fellow protester: We’ve learned that he has ALL these charges – See below. Due to the solidarity of the People’s Movement across Wisconsin and beyond, Matthew was bailed out of jail today and he’s safe. But he’ll be needing a lot of support going forward. Waupaca is trying to make example of him and we won’t let that happen! Protesting racist police terror and supporting the Black Lives Matter movement is not a crime!

Stay tuned for further information on this struggle and ongoing events in Waupaca.

Rochester, NY Housing Justice Alliance: Eviction Resistance Kickoff August 6, 2020

In the midst of the COVID-19 pandemic there is a massive wave of evictions just on the horizon. As the moratoriums on evictions begin to expire, millions of people across the country and tens of thousands of people right here in Monroe County are facing homelessness and housing insecurity.
We need to stop this from happening, and the Rochester Housing

Justice Alliance has been preparing to do just that.

That is why members of the Rochester Housing Justice Alliance are gathering on August 6th in front of the downtown courthouse to announce our intention to physically prevent our neighbors and community members from being evicted.
Over the last month, we have been preparing to hold Eviction Blockades for as many people facing eviction during COVID-19 as we can. So far we have trained nearly 100 people to physically prevent evictions from happening, and we intend to train many more.
We are hoping that this announcement will be a show of power. That is will let politicians, landlords, and anyone else who involved in the process of evicting people know: if you try to kick people in our community out of their homes, we will stop you.
The more people we have with us, the more powerful this announcement will be, and the better chance we have of preventing evictions before they even happen.
So please, join us.
Please wear a mask and respect social distancing.
