Milwaukee, August 16, 2020: The Mural Unveiling Party & Fashion Show

The Mural Unveiling Party & Fashion Show

>14th and Vilet INTERSECTION
Across The Street from Repairers of the Breach, 3 P.M.

A Mural unveiling, party and press conference in one. The theme: “Give them their flowers now”, with a fashion show to illustrate the subtext for people of color: “I am Art”

The artists and company behind this mural have created quite the buzz in the city. They are responsible for adorning walls with George Floyd at Holton and North; Seville Smith and Sandra Bland at Holton and Center; Breonna Taylor at Locust and Holton, and more.

Art -I-Culture LLC is the business name of M.I.L. Collective

Art-I-Culture is black and woman owned, and serves a diverse array of supremely talented artists – who to date have worked for free!

Impassioned by the revolutionary season the world is in, Art-I-Culture is an effort to subsidize the art and artist proportionately and create a new culture of creativity. WE WANT TO RAISE VOICES and create an Art Destination in the Hood to be frankly honest.

We call our movement
#ArtRevolutionMKE on GofundMe and future platforms.

Overpass Light Brigade to Milwaukee Mayor Tom Barrett: Health & Safety Over Profits!

Overpass Light Brigade

We held this message in front of Milwaukee City Hall tonight with Leaders Igniting Transformation and Milwaukee Teachers’ Education Association in solidarity for today’s National Day of Resistance (August 3, 2020). Milwaukee Mayor Tom Barrett and Health Commissioner Kowalik I failed to control the pandemic in Milwaukee. Now they just approved a plan that allows private vouchers and charter schools to open at half capacity while the city’s Public Schools made the wise choice for an all virtual start. This Reckless choice will make all of Milwaukee less safe.

Here are the National movement’s demands:

• No in-person schooling until scientific and public-health data supports it
• Police-free schools
• All schools must be supported to function as community schools with adequate numbers of counselors and nurses
• Safe conditions including lower class sizes, PPE, cleaning, testing, and other key protocols
• Equitable access to online learning
• Support for our communities and families, including a moratorium on evictions/foreclosures, direct cash assistance to those unable to work, and other critical social needs
• Moratorium on new charter or voucher programs
• Massive infusion of federal money to support the reopening funded by taxing the billionaires and Wall Street

A New Religion

https://bit.ly/3gCMgHq

By Emily Dong

What we need today is this new religion, one that raises a new set of high ideals for humanity that can guide, develop, and inspire people. Proclaiming the need for a new religion feels like it goes against our understanding of social progress. Social planning is more associated with the scientific method than emotions of compassion and justice. But that is the problem. People also need higher ideals of truth and morality, not just to guide actions for the benefit of all humanity but to inspire people to live lives full of meaning and hope.

Caravan Protest Black Workers’ Lives Matter Flex N Gate Detroit

2 –3 PM—THURS—AUGUST 6

Supporters of Black Workers’ Lives Matter will be staging a car caravan protest at the Flex-N-Gate auto parts plant in Detroit in support of workers there who are complaining of oppressive plantation-like conditions and unjust firings. They will gather Thursday, August 6, 2020 from 2-3 pm at 9047 St Cyril St on Detroit’s east side.

Flex N Gate Detroit, a parts supplier for Ford, was built off the backs of Black community members on Detroit’s east side.  Many lost their property on a promise that this corporation would create quality, family supporting jobs for Detroit residents. Detroiters went through extensive training and testing for direct hire into permanent positions.   Two years later, these same trained, skilled workers are being harassed and fired based on trumped up charges and subjected to a racially hostile work environment.

Flex N Gate Detroit’s predominantly Black work force of about 700 is now down to around 150. The original workers are being replaced with temporary workers with no training for the jobs, many of them immigrants subject to super-exploitation because of their status. Employees are subjected to extreme, oppressive conditions. They are being disciplined for absences while under management mandated Covid 19 quarantine, and for taking sick days or vacation time when ill.  They are treated disrespectfully, having to sign in and out to use the bathroom, and threatened with discipline “if you take too long.”

The FLEX N GATE owner is a BILLIONAIRE and continues to increase his profits by treating loyal employees like dirt and replacing them with lower paid, temporary workers who receive no benefits. Black workers are entitled to fair wages and benefits, job security, and dignity on the job.

Endorsing organizations include: Unite All Workers for Democracy (UAWD), Autoworker Caravan, and Moratorium Now!

Corporate and government-controlled media in U.S. have lost credibility: African American author

https://bit.ly/31i3aES

By Amir Mohammad Esmaeili

July 29, 2020

TEHRAN – Abayomi Azikiwe, an African American author, and journalist in Detroit, tells the Tehran Times that the owners of mainstream media in the U.S. have a vested interest in crushing the anti-racist movement and as a result, they “have lost credibility”.

Azikiwe says the fact that most people are suspicious of cable networks and news publications “can potentially place the ruling class in serious danger of a national uprising since its appeal to the masses could easily be rejected by key elements in the population.”

Azikiwe, who is the editor of the Pan-African News Wire, also expresses his dismay over the illegal presence of U.S. forces in Syria, saying, “The American government resents the independent character of the Syria state and therefore all peace and freedom-loving people throughout the world should defend the inherent right of the Syrian people to determine their leadership and the social system that best suits them in this historical period.”

The African-American writer also says U.S. forces have been deployed in the West Asia region to just “serve an imperialist agenda”.

The text of the interview with Azikiwe is as follows:
Q: Firstly, please let me ask your opinion on the recent U.S. illegal move in Syria. On Thursday night, U.S. warplanes operating illegally in Syria conducted some dangerous maneuvering close to the Mahan Air flight. The Civil Aviation Organization of Iran called it “a clear violation of international law and aviation standards and regulations.”  What is your comment?

A: This incident which gained major coverage in the U.S. corporate media was not an accident. The Trump administration has never concealed its hostility towards Iran. Fortunately, the pilots were able to avoid a crash landing. Although reports indicate that many people suffered injuries. Such occurrences should not go without an official response from international human rights agencies particularly within the United Nations framework….
