Port Washington: March In Solidarity

Join the community this Sunday to march in solidarity of Black Lives Matter. This is an event created by TheNextGeneration Facebook page. This group is a youth movement group that helps educate the younger generations on racism and uplift those voices. We want to continue to amplify our voices to enlighten and bring forth change to the community for the better. We will be starting this event at 3:30pm, and beginning to march around 4pm. Please wear masks!

We will be posting our route on Saturday at 12pm. The route we have planned will be 3.9 miles long. We encourage everyone to come join us marching for as long as they are able to. There will only be one uphill moment, while the rest will be flat or going downhill.

Before we begin our march we will be having organizer Cella Martinez speak about her experiences and educate us on the importance of this march. We will allow for anyone in the crowd to also come up and share their knowledge on racism and what we can do better as a community. We have talked with PWPD about helping us block off roads to keep us safe. There will be a supply of masks, snacks, and waters at the event. We HIGHLY encourage everyone to wear a mask to keep our community safe, and allow for more people to come join us in our march.

After marching we will be grilling out, listening to music, and hanging out. We encourage this to be a time where we can get to know each other, and share stories and experiences that will help us better understand the importance of this movement in our community. Let’s continue to uplift the Black voices in Port Washington. Together we stand, Black Lives Matter!

There will be tons of street parking available. The two main streets that connect with the park are N Spring Street and W Grand Ave.

Milwaukee currently has a major housing crisis on its hands. Over 150 people are being evicted every week creating uncertainty and increasing homelessness during this global pandemic and economic crisis. Meanwhile, our city “leaders” have done nothing to help people stay in their homes. Tom Barrett has made no meaningful statement on the eviction crisis and has refused calls to put a city-wide eviction moratorium in place. See our list of emergency demands below and turn out if you can and if you can’t please tell your friends about the event!

Milwaukee Autonomous Tenants Union represents tenants all over the city and is making the following demands of Tom Barrett on behalf of all renters:

-Put in place a city-wide eviction moratorium that will extend indefinitely until the end of the COVID-19 crisis. Mandate that no late payment fees or back-rent can accumulate during this moratorium that the tenant will be forced to pay later.

-Enforce state law against landlords who harass and retaliate against tenants who are unable to pay due to this crisis. Expose and Cite landlords that harass and retaliate against tenants.

-Make double security deposits for people that were evicted illegal. Landlords demanding double security are gatekeepers to housing that are using the COVID-19 crisis to squeeze more money out of people.

-Remove COVID 19 evictions from tenant’s records and all prior evictions that have been satisfied by tenants but which landlords refuse to remove by filing the correct paperwork.

-Create a tenants court outside and separate from civil court, that will guarantee tenants rights and provide free legal representation for all tenants.

Meet up at Washington Park Senior Center, 4420 W. Vliet St., MKE. Short march and rally to bring attention to evictions that are plaguing Milwaukee during a global pandemic. Opportunities to share stories and gather together for future fights against landlords who are kicking people out during COVID.

This will be a socially distant march and rally, please wear a mask. Hand sanitizer and water will be provided. Call or email for further information.

Hosted by Chanese 4 Justice

6500 Northway, Greendale Village Hall – 4-6 P.M.

This event is for everyone to come together to have a conversation about the SRO’s in schools. Ask questions. Share a story or listen to the speakers. If you feel uncomfortable speaking on the mic we will pass out paper at the beginning of the event for you to write down questions. A volunteer will read the questions and a speaker will answer the questions to the best of their ability.

Venezuela won the right to appeal the ruling of the High Court of England in the case of the gold seized by the UK, an instance that denied access to the Bolivarian government on that resource guarded by the Bank of England, a determination that was qualified by the BCV authorities as “absurd and unusual”, also that is intended to deprive the Venezuelan people of the necessary resources to face the Covid-19 pandemic.

This was reported this Friday to international media by the lawyers of the Central Bank of Venezuela (BCV), who announced that they attended the appeal because they considered that the judge was unaware of “the reality on the ground.”

This Friday, Zaiwalla & Co partner representing BCV, Sarosh Zaiwalla said: “It is incredibly rare for a trial judge to give permission to appeal against his own trial, and we are pleased that we were granted a limited appeal.”

He denounced that the plot promoted by Juan Guaidó to give away Venezuelan gold seeks to repeat the history applied by the United States (USA), in Libya in 2008, by making a mercenary pact with the intention of dispossessing the patrimony and assets belonging to the Venezuelan state.
