The outpouring of support for Alondra Garcia as she faces a 1-day suspension without pay for providing immigrant families with community and legal resources about their legal rights has been nothing short of amazing. The Principal at Allen Field Elementary (Fritz Blandon) is a rabid Trump supporter who is carrying out a barely disguised version of Trump’s rightwing, anti-immigrant agenda. The Trump 2.0 administration has wasted no time attacking the “enemy within,” whipping up nationalism and making immigrants public enemy #1. Nearly one week in, Trump has promised to immediately send troops to the U.S.-Mexico border and has already passed over 100 draconian executive orders—including declaring a national emergency at the Mexico border, pardoning far-right January 6 rioters, and plenty more. Our immigrant communities are currently under siege, and with Trump furthering his attacks on trans people, declaring that there are only two recognized sexes, and promising further domestic oil drilling and tariffs, the whole working class, oppressed, and the environment will become further divided, conquered, and decimated without an organized fightback.
The almost 3700 signatures on the Stand With Alondra Garcia! petition within 5 days of creation are a reflection of the hunger to immediately fight back against Trump, the right-wing, and the billionaires who endorse his destructive and violent xenophobic policies meant to divide and conquer the entire working class. To defend Alondra Garcia, and all teachers and workers standing up for immigrants rights, we need to put maximum pressure on MPS Administration and Principal Blandón. We need mass action from the broadest sections of workers, students, and young people to pave the way for an offensive struggle to defeat Trump’s right-wing agenda. We implore all Milwaukee labor unions and social movement organizations to join us and help spread the word. Tomorrow is the day that Alondra is meant to serve her 1-day suspension. We will not accept this blatant intimidation lying down! We will be demanding reversal of the suspension from her record and backpay!
Join us for a RALLY TOMORROW, 8:30 AM @ Allen-Field Elementary as we bring the fight directly to Principal Blandon. The immigrants rights movement must stand up and stand out in solidarity and further our footing to defeat Trump’s right-wing agenda once and for all!
OUR DEMANDS:
– Withdraw the 1-day, unpaid suspension scheduled for 1/29 and remove the disciplinary statements from Ms. Garcia’s File.
– WE demand BACKPAY for Ms.Garcia if the suspension goes through!
– Our schools become bastions of opposition to Trump’s plans for immigrant detentions and deportations! School Admin needs to do much more than the bare minimum. We need a real Safe Haven campaign that involves teachers, students, and families and gives legal support to those brought up on immigration-related charges
– For emergency defense networks organized by the MTEA that can respond to raids in our schools & community with mass direct action
