CREATING THE ANTI-RAIDING COMMITTEE

THE GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE MEMBERSHIP OF WORKER JUSTICE WISCONSIN

In use of its powers in accordance with the rules of the workers’ center…

WHEREAS, the current president and his allies have vowed to increase and intensify the use of mass raids against undocumented members of our community;

WHEREAS, the raids are a political tool that only serves to harm our community and divide the working class in favor of employers and white nationalists;

THAT millions of Americans come from immigrant families who came to this country with the same dream of today’s immigrants to create a better life for themselves and their families;

THAT this country was also stolen from indigenous communities by European settlers and their descendants;

THAT an attack on one worker, regardless of nationality, is an attack on the entire working class;

THAT our power lies in our collective organization;

THAT many employers do not know what to do if ICE agents come to their workplace;

THAT immigrants, regardless of their immigration status, are welcome in our community and contribute greatly to the well-being and economy of our society;

RESOLVED To create a Comité Anti Raids (CAR) with the mission to educate immigrant workers in our community about their rights and guide them in creating such committees within their workplaces to defend workers from a possible raid. ###
