People’s Struggle Wins David Huerta Release!

SEIU California and SEIU-USWW President David Huerta has been released! Today, a judge set him free after federal authorities attacked, injured, and unjustly detained him while advocating for immigrant workers at an ICE raid Friday afternoon in Los Angeles. While we are relieved that David is free and reunited with his family tonight, we demand that his unjust charges be dropped.

Although we’re celebrating his release, which came after many workers and allies hit the streets, this NEVER should have happened. David’s arrest is just one example of many egregious violations of our rights as Americans, immigrants, and human beings.

Stand with us and take action. Tell Congress: End ICE raids and military escalation against our communities, drop the unjust charge against David Huerta and vote against the unprecedented increase in funding for more ICE raids and violence against our communities.

What happened to David on Friday is about more than just a single union leader. It is a direct assault on all of us who believe in the fundamental rights of standing up for justice and speaking out for the rights of workers.

Now the Trump administration, dare I say regime, is weaponizing the federal government to go after people who disagree with them politically. It is a real threat to our democracy, and we refuse to be silent.

As workers today, we can celebrate the release of David Huerta. But at the same time, we must join communities nationwide in demanding ICE return people to their families and communities, end these raids, and stop unjust detentions.

TAKE ACTION
