Union del Barrio: ‘The Moral Imperative is to Defend Our Communities’

Unión del Barrio

The Moral Imperative is to Defend Our Communities

Neighborhood Union salutes the brave people of Compton in Los Angeles and is proud to have participated shoulder-to-shoulder to get ICE, Border Patrol and Los Angeles Sheriffs out of our community.

Since the morning hours of Saturday, June 7, a strong presence of immigration agents was announced with the intention of abducting hundreds of workers very close to the Home Depot. They had to spend more than 8 hours of fighting until the agency was forced to retreat from the site without being able to kidnap the workers of factories and labor warehouses. This is how you stand up for the working people!

In a matter of hours, this event of popular bravery leads the White House to formalize the announcement of the National Guard deployment to the city of Los Angeles. From the early hours of Sunday, June 8, a strong military presence was documented in the center of the city. Finally, Trump and his fascist team are approaching with enthusiasm to be able to impose a curfew and safe step to announce the “act of insurrection” to give logic to the suspension of all constitutional, human and civil rights. The fascists desperately seek to accelerate the conditions that serve to repress us and thus take away the courage and determination to give them the battle.

Neighborhood Union does not give up, and we commit to fighting the enemy repression through organization and community self-defense. We have nearly 45 years of organizational experience and a legacy of resistance and struggle that dates back to when the first invaders first stepped on our lands in 1492.

If time has taught us anything, it’s that the established politicians in power will not go out to confront ICE, Border Patrol, or the fascist Trump himself. There’s nowhere to run and nothing else to do – the only option we have is to unite, organize, and defend ourselves and ourselves. We can give them the battle because we are more and after so many attacks, so many abuses, so much pain the people can and should stand up with their heads held high. Without the popular organization the repressive state annihilates us.

Neighborhood Union announces a second phase of resistance and defence of our Community Patrols. In the coming days and weeks, we will reach different neighborhoods materials, methods, and guides to detect, warn and remove migration agencies from our communities. For now we can’t maintain an active defense of entire cities, but if we can defend ourselves in our neighborhoods, house by house, street by street.

We will not accept to live in eternal fear, and we do not ask permission or apologies to the oppressive state to defend our communities and families. History is on our side. Today more than ever, we have the moral authority and universal right to defend our people.

The militancy of our organization is not used to covering their faces in political acts, only if, as we have seen in recent days, tear gases are thrown. Also, the emblem we are wearing is the image of the Mexican Eagle Knight which symbolizes our historical commitment, political formation, and organizational discipline. We make this distinction because in the days and months to come, there will be a lot of political activity on the streets and we warn our militancy, supporters, and the people in general to move with caution, always be aware not to fall into provocations.

We also call on the peoples of Los Angeles and San Diego to join the Neighborhood Union, and thus consolidate our popular force in the Southern California region with 5000 cadres, trained, disciplined and ready to face what we all know is coming upon us.

Once again as the Neighborhood Union we dedicate ourselves to the fight for the defense and freedom of our people. If fascists try to repress us, we will respond in any neighborhood, school, workplace, home, church, and on the streets.

Not even a step back!

Fascists, Shall Not Pass!

This is Our Land, This is Our Fight!

Liberation Requires Organization!
