Solidarity With Vox Media Union!

The National Writers Union and its digital media division, the Freelance Solidarity Project, stand in solidarity with the Vox Media Union as they prepare to strike.

For months, the Writers Guild of America, East members at Vox Media have been at the bargaining table negotiating their third Collective Bargaining Agreement. Now, with 95% of the members voting yes on a strike pledge, the Vox Media Union is ready to strike to get the fair contract they deserve.

If tonight’s 11:59pm deadline passes without a contract, and the bargaining committee authorizes a strike, we pledge to support our Vox Media Union colleagues by committing not to cross the digital picket line, as readers OR as workers.

We don’t scab when staff unions strike. As a union of media workers committed to raising labor standards across the industry, we believe that the working conditions of freelancers are intrinsically bound up with those of staffers. But often, companies turn to freelance labor to plug the gap when their staffers go on strike. We won’t let bosses use our labor to break the resolve of striking workers. And we won’t let them use scarcity in the industry as a wedge to separate us from our staff union comrades.

Solidarity!
