On Monday June 23, the Moratorium NOW! Coalition and the Michigan Emergency Committee Against War & Injustice (MECAWI) will hold a public meeting to examine the history of the current war by the State of Israel against the Islamic Republic of Iran and the central role of the United States in fomenting conflict in the region.

On June 13, the Israeli Defense Forces (IDF) launched a war of aggression against the Iranian people. In retaliation, Iran has launched a series of aerial strikes inside the citadel of the Israeli regime doing extensive damage in Tel Aviv, Haifa and other strategic areas.

This program will focus on the important role of Iran and the Persian Gulf in the overall international situation. We will look at the history of the US-British backed coup of 1953 which imposed the Shah of Iran. For another 26 years the Iranian people were subjected to a ruthless dictatorship which left hundreds of thousands of people dead, injured and forced into exile.

The Islamic Revolution of 1979 was a direct result of the decades of Washington-engineered dictatorship of the monarchy. Over the last 46 years, Tehran has been a staunch opponent of U.S. foreign policy in West Asia and around the world.

In the backdrop to the recent bombing of Iran and the targeted assassination of its key military, intelligence and scientific leaders, the genocide is continuing in Gaza and throughout Occupied Palestine. The IDF war in Gaza has officially killed more than 55,000 and the injuring of more than 100,000. Everyone in Gaza and the West Bank are facing displacement and imminent attacks.

Moratorium NOW! Coalition and MECAWI are committed to building the antiwar movement to end the attacks on Iran, the genocide in Palestine and for the total liberation of all oppressed nations throughout the entire region and the world. The Trump White House claimed during its campaign for retake the office that it would not engage in foreign endless wars. This along with other falsehoods have created a domestic and global crisis.
