Endangered Species Coalition:
The Senate has just narrowly passed H.R. 1, a massive budget bill that cancels millions of dollars for endangered species recovery while adding $18 billion in tax benefits for the oil and gas industry.
Right now, the House of Representatives is reviewing this consequential bill but many Representatives are still undecided. The House will vote tomorrow! Contact your Representative tonight and urge them to oppose this bill.
The Senate made significant changes to the original version. Thanks to incredible grassroots backlash, Senator Lee’s proposal to sell off public lands was removed from the bill. This is a huge relief—it means special wild places won’t be sold to the highest bidder and turned into sprawling suburbs.
But there’s still a serious problem. The budget bill continues to sell out our public lands and oceans by promoting more drilling and mining—with less oversight—and eliminates millions of dollars in funding to recover endangered species including freshwater mussels, butterflies, desert fish, and tropical island plants. These are some of the most vulnerable species in need of recovery work. They’re also deeply connected to clean water and food security for people.
Recovering endangered species takes expertise and coordination. It requires scientists in labs, restoration crews in the field, and meaningful federal investment to make it all work. So why are some Senators slashing funding for endangered species recovery? Perhaps because this bill adds $18 billion in new tax breaks for oil and gas companies.
Your Representative is reviewing the Senate’s version right now and needs to hear from you. This bill is harmful—and the time to speak up is now.
Tell your Representative to vote NO on H.R. 1. Tell them now.
Thank You!
Together we are stronger.

Subject: Vote No on H.R. 1 reconciliation bill
I urge the Representative to vote NO on H.R. 1, the reconciliation bill, because it sells out wildlife, lands, oceans, and our biodiverse future. The bill removes funding for endangered species recovery and increases tax benefits for the oil and gas industry. Please oppose this bill and oppose these provisions in any future legislation.
