Eighty years ago, the cities of Hiroshima and Nagasaki were devastated by nuclear bombs killing over 200,000 people and leaving a legacy of pain that continues to this day.
As we honor those lives and reflect on the enduring threat of nuclear weapons, we invite you to join us for Lanterns for Peace on August 6 at Tenney Park starting at 6:30pm. This family-friendly, community gathering is both a memorial and a call to action.
This year, PSR Wisconsin, in collaboration with Safe Skies Clean Water Wisconsin, Madison for a World Beyond War, and Madison Friends Meeting (Quakers), sent a letter to the Wisconsin National Guard urging a pause on military flyovers over Madison. We believe it is possible and necessary to hold space for peace even as we honor those who serve.
By attending Lanterns for Peace, you will be part of a growing movement working to:
Commemorate the victims of nuclear war
Advocate for policies that reduce the risk of future nuclear conflict
Build community around values of peace, justice, and shared humanity
Please join us and bring friends, neighbors, and children. This is a moment to gather, reflect, and recommit ourselves to ensuring this never happens again.
