FILM: “American Coup: Wilmington 1898”

(Streaming)
Wednesday, August 13, 2025
 5:15 p.m.

You’re invited to a special multi-part event hosted by WAVE Educational Fund. This powerful film uncovers a pivotal moment in our nation’s past that had been deliberately erased, yet continues to shape our present.

American Coup tells the little-known story of the only coup d’état in the history of the U.S. Self-described white supremacists used intimidation and violence to destroy Black political and economic power and overthrow Wilmington’s democratically-elected, multi-racial government.

When you sign up, you’ll receive:

✅August 5: A private link to stream the film on your own time, available for one week.
✅August 13: A separate link to join a live group viewing and discussion via Zoom.

The August 13 event will include an opportunity to view the film together, beginning at 5:15 p.m. After, join us at 7:00 p.m. for a panel discussion that reflects on what the documentary tells us about democracy, race, and power today.  Whether you prefer to watch on your own or experience it with others, we’ll be creating space for learning, growth, and conversation.
