What You Need to Know

While EGLE (Michigan Department of Environment, Great Lakes & Energy) currently has the Line 5 tunnel proposal under review, there are serious concerns that aren’t being fully addressed:

Construction Risks: The existing 72-year-old pipelines will continue operating just feet away from major construction activities in the Straits of Mackinac, creating unprecedented risks to the Great Lakes.

Traffic Impact: Over 1,300 massive truckloads initially, followed by 282 heavy trucks per day for six years – that’s one truck every 5 minutes during daylight hours on our scenic highways.

Financial Liability: Michigan taxpayers would own the tunnel infrastructure while Enbridge gets exclusive use, leaving us holding the bag for any accidents or failures.

Scale: This isn’t just a simple tunnel. The proposed structure would be 4 miles long with a 21-foot inside diameter, requiring massive industrial construction in one of the most environmentally sensitive areas of the Great Lakes.
