Over a half-year of diligent preparation is culminating this month
and next as Line 5 legal activities are set to begin.
Background: Last November, the Wisconsin DNR issued permits and other regulatory approvals that Enbridge Energy needs in order to build a new 41-mile segment of its Line 5 oil pipeline in northern Wisconsin. In response, Midwest Environmental Advocates (MEA) on behalf of 350 Wisconsin, Sierra Club and the League of Women Voters of Wisconsin, filed a joint petition with Clean Wisconsin for a contested case hearing challenging the permits. The Bad River Band of Lake Superior Chippewa is also challenging the permits. The contested case hearing will begin on August 12 and is expected to last until early October.
