Nonetheless, we are posting OUR RESPONSE to the interview directly here on the LPDC Canada group site and ask all people to go to the Democracy Now website to watch Leonard’s full-length interview.
Title of Interview: ““I’m Not Going to Give Up”: Leonard Peltier on Indigenous Rights, His Half-Century in Prison & Coming Home”
“Never give up the struggle to free Leonard Peltier until Hell freezes over”– that’s what our Anishinaabe Elder, the late Dr. Art Solomon, was famous for saying way back in the beginning of the 1980s.
Over the decades, some of our respected Elders here, including the revered Kwakiutl Elder, the late Ethel Pearson, Leonard’s adoptive mother of Comox, British Columbia, always said that her son “Gwarth-ee-lass” Leonard Peltier would one day walk out of prison.
After his false conviction, our Elders and medicine people through ceremony came back to the people and stated the spirit helpers spoke to them saying that Leonard would one day be free to go home, but it would and could take a very, very long time.
In the interview, Leonard shares words of inspiration and endurance to the very limit. Beyond all, we are reminded there is only truth and justice unrequited. What we all have always fought for! Leonard– We’ve seen you standing strong, walking the walk from the very beginning! The sacrifices you’ve made and unimaginable suffering! That the truth be told!
We love you, Leonard, our brother! Stay safe and get healthy! Our prayers are with you always! And always, we stand in honor of the people who have fought with us side by side for so many years in and outside of Canada and the world!
Today is always a good day — to be alive, to be thankful, to be Indigenous, to be free! Hiy! Hiy! All our relatives!
