The U.S. war on Venezuela has reached a critical point.
After months of illegally bombing boats and killing 43 people, Donald Trump is now threatening a land invasion.
In a dramatic escalation, the Pentagon announced on Friday, Oct. 24, that it is deploying the Navy’s most advanced aircraft carrier, the USS Gerald R. Ford, to the region.
This adds to an already massive invasion force positioned in the Caribbean, including 8 warships, a submarine, 10,000 troops, B-52 strategic bombers, F-35 fighter jets, and an unknown number of Special Operations units. Simultaneously, the bounty on democratically elected President Nicolás Maduro has been doubled to $50 million.
Let us be clear: this war has nothing to do with drug trafficking, an accusation that has been thoroughly debunked. It has everything to do with who will control Venezuela’s vast natural resources—its oil and gold. Will it be the people of Venezuela, or the bankers and billionaires in New York and London?
We call for emergency protests now. We will take to the streets in our cities, campuses, and communities to demand:
• Stop the U.S. war on Venezuela!
• Money for jobs, education, and healthcare—not for bombs and cuts to food stamps and Medicaid!
Workers, students, and the poor in the United States have nothing to gain from a war waged for the profit of billionaires and military generals.
