Milwaukee Teachers Union Fights for Students; Demands Food Relief, Takes Up Collections

Milwaukee Teachers’ Education Association

“My name is Ingrid Walker-Henry. On November 1st, 700,000 Wisconsinites will be cut off of food/SNAP benefits.

Our elected leaders have failed us. While Trump and the Republicans trip over themselves to enrich billionaires, they will allow mothers, our students, and our neighbors to starve.

Food and healthcare are human rights, the people must have both. Medicaid must be restored and expanded in Wisconsin.

Minnesota Governor Tim Walz announced they will be allocating funds from their state treasury to ensure Minnesotans won’t go hungry.

Wisconsin has a $4.7 billion surplus. But Senate President, Republican Mary Felzkowski, said Wisconsin doesn’t have the money to feed Wisconsin’s children and families.

Wisconsin is sitting on a 4.7 billion surplus! Our elected leaders have a moral obligation to stand in the gap for Wisconsinites. The 4.7 billion Wisconsin surplus belongs to the people of this state. Action by our elected officials is needed now to allocate $115 million to ensure Wisconsinites are fed in November.

Combined, the organizations here today will donate over $6,500 to Hunger Task Force. We are calling on Milwaukee residents to join us in making a contribution to Hunger Task Force today as we do all we can to feed Milwaukee children, mothers and our neighbors.”
