Stimson: The Strategic Costs of US Strikes Against Venezuela An analysis by a pro-Washington ‘thinktank.’ “Now, the administration is considering greater action, including airstrikes in Venezuela or an all-out attempt at regime change. US aggression in the Caribbean has little upside, while threatening to make the US a pariah and exacerbate the conditions that lead to drug trafficking and migration. The Trump administration’s approach is strategically unsound, risking increased regional instability and hostility towards the US without identifiable benefits. The Trump administration has not yet made clear its policy towards Venezuela and the Caribbean, but three options have so far been discussed: continuing strikes on ships in the Caribbean, carrying out targeted strikes within Venezuela, or an invasion of Venezuela for the purposes of regime change. This section takes each of the options in turn to discuss the repercussions of each for the United States.”
Truthout (Marjorie Cohen): Trump Is Moving Relentlessly Toward Illegal War in Venezuela [Cohen, former president of the National Lawyers Guild, summarizes from a legal point of view Washington’s war moves against Venezuela this year.] “The only thing you could use the [Gerald Ford] carrier for is attacking targets ashore, because they are not going to be as effective at targeting small boats at sea,” said Bryan Clark, senior fellow at the Hudson Institute and retired Navy officer. “If you are striking inside Venezuela, the carrier is an efficient way to do it due to the lack of basing in the region.” There are now over 6,000 sailors and Marines on eight warships in the area. The USS Ford strike group could add nearly 4,500 more sailors and nine squadrons of aircraft.
Venezuelanalysis: Death Toll Hits 57 [now 60], Latest US Bombings on Small Boats Strike off Mexico’s Coast The total death toll from US bombings of small vessels now stands at 60, as Washington faces international backlash for its extrajudicial killings while increasing its military build-up in the Caribbean. Those killed hail from places such as Venezuela, Colombia and Trinidad and Tobago, including three identified as fishermen.
Hegseth claimed that the strikes took place in international waters but offered no verifiable evidence that the crews were trafficking narcotics. In the October 16 bombing, survivors Jeison Obando Pérez and Andrés Fernando Tufiño were returned to Colombia and Ecuador, respectively. Obando is still under medical observation for head trauma, and Bogotá has not revealed any grounds for prosecution. Ecuadorian authorities released Tufiño shortly after returning due to insufficient evidence to support legal action.
On October 27, Venezuelan Foreign Minister Yván Gil denounced that the CIA was preparing a “false flag” operation that consisted of an attack against a US ship stationed in Trinidad and pinning the blame on Caracas to justify US military aggression against Venezuela. “A CIA-funded criminal cell linked to this covert operation has been dismantled in our territory.”
RT: Russia Ready to Assist Venezuela in Response to Intervention Threats Russia is ready to respond to Venezuela’s requests regarding threats, Russian Foreign Ministry spokesperson Maria Zakharova said. “We are in contact with our partners. We are prepared to continue responding appropriately to their requests, taking into account existing and potential threats.” She added that the two nations will continue “working side by side, looking to the future with serenity and confidence. We have overcome many difficulties and are prepared for any eventuality.”
In mid-October, President Trump said he had authorized the CIA to carry out covert operations in Venezuelan territory. In response, Maduro questioned, “Can anyone believe that the CIA has not been operating in Venezuela for 60 years? Can anyone believe that the CIA has not conspired against Commander [Hugo] Chávez and me for the past 26 years?”
Orinoco Tribune: UN Human Rights Chief Condemns ‘Unacceptable’ US Strikes, Venezuela Hails Long-Awaited Statement On October 31, UN Commissioner for Human Rights Volker Türk issued the first clear United Nations condemnation of US military strikes against small boats in the Caribbean Sea and Pacific Ocean, calling them unacceptable and demanding they stop. “These attacks, and their mounting human cost, are unacceptable. The US must halt such attacks and take all measures necessary to prevent the extrajudicial killing of people aboard these boats, whatever the criminal conduct alleged against them.” UN Secretary-General António Guterres’ spokesperson Stéphane Dujarric was pushed to say that the top UN official “believes” US military attacks violate international law.
Conservative Figures Speak out against War on Venezuela
Judge Napolitano: Prof. John Mearsheimer : The Dangerous Marco Rubio. They discuss Ukraine for the first five minutes, then Venezuela.
New York Times: Trump Supporters Are Uneasy About Military Actions Against Venezuela Conservative policy advisers, such as Laura Loomer and Stephen Bannon, are raising questions about Washington’s Venezuela policy. Curt Mills, executive director of The American Conservative, wrote that “avoidable catastrophe continues to loom…We’re getting down to the Real Business of murdering people randomly with no plan.” Republicans Rand Paul and Thomas Massie have also spoken out against US intervention. The NYT article states “To placate Trump, Maduro has offered the US dominant stakes in Venezuela’s oil and mineral wealth” – however, there is no statement by officials of either country substantiating this story.
Lew Rockwell (Moon of Alabama): U.S. Ready To Bomb Venezuela Under Absurdly False Pretext Venezuela is a huge country double the size of Iraq with a mountainous and often densely wooded countryside. The US military is unable to invade, occupy and control it, but might want a decapitation strike on President Maduro and the military leadership. Meanwhile the CIA and special forces will have to work on the ground in Caracas to organize local thugs for an assault on the main government sites and radio/TV buildings.
The Gerald Ford aircraft carrier is expected to arrive in early to mid-November. The Wall Street Journal says that the U.S. is ready to strike on land. The Miami Herald says the decision to attack Venezuela has been made and that strikes are imminent. The first part will mostly be done by launching sea based Tomahawk cruise missiles and long range aerial bombing. After the campaign has disabled or destroyed the air defenses the next part of the campaign will attempt to “decapitate the” government’s “hierarchy”. Venezuela has some 20 Su-30MK2V multi-role fighter airplanes with Russian Kh-31 anti-ship missiles. It also has Iranian-built Peykaap-III fast attack craft equipped with CM-90 Anti-Ship Missiles. It is quite conceivable that the Venezuelan Navy will be successful in hitting a handful of US ships.

Peoples World (Tom Whitney): U.N. again demands an end to U.S. blockade of Cuba Cuba on Oct. 29 once more scored a big victory in its battle to end the U.S. economic blockade of the island. For 33 consecutive years, Cuba is defending against all-but-open U.S. war aimed at undermining her independence and removing her government. The vote in the General Assembly was 165 nations in favor, seven against, and 13 abstaining. Voting against the resolution were: the United States and a group of countries ruled by right-wing autocrats: Israel, Ukraine, Hungary, Paraguay, Argentina, and Northern Macedonia. Cuban spokespersons extolled this year’s victory as a big win, especially in view of an unprecedented U.S. propaganda campaign prior to the vote.
Granma: Cuba Foreign Minister Bruno Rodríguez UN Speech on “Necessity of ending the economic, commercial, and financial blockade imposed by the United States of America against Cuba.” October 29th, 2025 Between March 1st, 2024, and February 28th of this year alone, the blockade caused Cuba some $7.5561 billion in material damages. This impact is similar to the nominal gross domestic product of at least 30 countries represented here, according to World Bank data… Cuba is a victim of terrorism. We have demonstrated this before in this Assembly. For years, and even today, terrorist acts against the country are organized and financed from U.S. territory. Recognized perpetrators of horrific acts of aggression against the Cuban people, resulting in thousands of deaths, mutilations, and extensive material damage, live here peacefully and with absolute impunity. In 2023, we provided the U.S. government with the names and details of 62 terrorists and 20 terrorist organizations operating against Cuba from this country, and they have done nothing to date.
Nicaragua
Nica Notes (Becca Renk): U.S. Scrambles to Put on Pressure on Nicaragua
A US Trade Representative’s office (USTR) report alleges Nicaragua violates labor regulations, “allowing use of child and forced labor, human trafficking, repression of freedom of association and collective bargaining.” Washington is threatening 100% tariffs on goods imported from Nicaragua and suspension of all benefits for Nicaragua from the Dominican Republic–Central America Free Trade Agreement. The report produces no evidence of Nicaraguan government complacency in child or forced labor, describes chartered flights of migrants into the country on the $10 tourist visas granted to all visitors as “human trafficking,” and conflates industry trade associations with unions when describing “union arrests.”
From 2007-2023, 70,452 companies signed commitments to use no child labor and to respect the rights of adolescent workers. During that same period, 1,636 new unions were formed, now with 1.2 million workers affiliated in unions, or 38% of Nicaragua’s labor force. 138,374 women who were working for less than minimum wage had their salaries raised to the minimum, and employers paid out $8.8 million in claims for workers. The minimum wage has increased 550% over 17 years.
