December 1, 2025: World AIDS Day

On this World AIDS day, We remember and continue to fight back as the Trump administration continues to defund and dismantle our healthcare! We will not go back! Healthcare is a human right!

Today, we light the candles. And we remember.

AIDS was first diagnosed in Wisconsin in 1982. Within ten years, we’d lost over 1,000 beautiful humans, and AIDS had become the #1 killer of men aged 25-44 in the USA.

For those who survived, this era — before rapid testing, before treatment options, before hope — will forever be as unforgettable as the loved ones we lost.

Since then, advancements in testing, diagnosis, treatment, and prevention have transformed HIV/AIDS care worldwide. HIV/AIDS is now the 13th leading cause of death overall in the USA. Today, HIV is neither a death sentence or a terminal illness.

But we must pause to remember when it was — and honor those unforgettable people who should and could still be here with us today.

World AIDS Day is Monday, December 1. This year, we are partnering with Vivent Health – Wisconsin Prevention to collect, share, and amplify the names, stories and photos of loved ones we lost to AIDS. And we hope you’ll share yours.

Please send to wislgbtqhistory@gmail.com before November 30 to be part of our memorial tribute.

Because no one is ever truly gone — as long as their story is still being told. #BeSeen
