Starbucks Workers United: NYC raised the stakes. Let’s make it louder!

December 5, 2025

Yesterday, 12 people were arrested outside Starbucks’ regional headquarters in the Empire State Building as they peacefully protested Starbucks’ serious and unresolved labor law violations.

Hundreds of baristas and allies, along with labor leaders like SEIU President April Varrett, bore witness and rallied outside of the NYC corporate offices to make sure Starbucks hears us loud and clear: stop union busting and settle a fair contract NOW.

From the first picket sign raised to the last chant shouted, workers showed Starbucks they’re not afraid to escalate. They risked it all yesterday, and the most powerful thing you can do right now is amplify them. Share this action so it spreads well beyond NYC!
As shift supervisor Kaari Harsila (she/they) said: “Starbucks executives need to know: wherever Starbucks is, our picket lines will be there too. From coast to coast, baristas and our allies are uniting in the streets to demand Starbucks end union busting and finalize a fair contract with the pay, hours, staffing, and protections we need to succeed. We love our jobs and are fighting to build a better Starbucks that is actually the best job in retail.”

NYC baristas sent a message: this isn’t about coffee — it’s about dignity, fair pay, real hours, and an end to union busting.

After the city ruled Starbucks broke labor law more than half a million times and owes 35.5 million dollars to baristas, leaders like Zohran Mamdani and Bernie Sanders backed workers on the line. It’s on Starbucks executives to do the same by delivering proposals that address workers’ demands so everyone can move forward. Baristas want Starbucks to succeed, but that only happens when the company respects the people who keep it running. Your move, SBUX.

In solidarity,
Starbucks Workers United
