A U.S. delegation of peace and solidarity activists, including UNAC leaders and members has been hampered in their attempt to attend the Peoples Assembly for Sovereignty and Peace in Our America due to the U.S. illegal no-fly zone imposed over Venezuela. Most were unable to get flights to make the trip. Besides our North American delegation, this conference will include people from throughout Latin America and the world. Many of these people will also have difficulty getting to Venezuela and may not be able to make it. Additionally, this conference is taking place during a period that the U.S. administration is illegally bombing small boats off the coast of Venezuela and threatening to attack Venezuela itself. As such, the conference is an act of solidarity for all who are able to get there.
The conference is also happening after the week of protests in the US and internationally that took place from November 15 – 23, which saw 100 actions take place (click here for the list of action). On December 6th another day of actions saw an additional 65 actions.
We must keep up the pressure and build a unified movement to end the bombing of small boats and the U.S. war moves towards Venezuela.
