We, the undersigned organizations, stand in unequivocal solidarity with the six Palestine Action–affiliated prisoners on hunger strike in the UK: Qesser Zuhrah, Amu Gib, Heba Muraisi, T Hoxha, Lewie Chiaramello, and Kamran Ahmed, who, on day 53, are facing the increasing likelihood of death. We also salute Jon Cink and Umer Khalid, who recently ended their strikes. This brave act of protest in the face of the UK government’s draconian repression marks the largest hunger strike in British prisons since the Irish political prisoners’ strike of 1981.
As of mid-December, at least 9,300 Palestinians are being held in Zionist prisons, almost half of whom are held without trial or charge. Coinciding with the 108th anniversary of the Balfour Declaration on November 2, the hunger strikers continue to reinforce that Palestine is always their primary consideration.
Last week, 800 healthcare workers wrote a letter to the British government warning that the hunger strikers “will die in prison, having never even been convicted of an offence.” Rather than end its deep entanglement in the ongoing colonization and genocide of Palestinians, the UK government is willing to let its own citizens die in these brutal conditions.
Legacy media in the UK and the US are complicit in the repression of this story. We must amplify the demands of the Palestine Action–affiliated hunger strikers:
- End all censorship.
- Immediate bail.
- Right to a fair trail.
- De-proscribe Palestine Action.
- Shut Elbit Systems down in the UK.
The UK government has the power to accept and implement these demands, but is actively choosing to ignore them.

Political prisoners remain at the forefront of our struggle in the imperial core. We affirm our solidarity with all those who protest genocide, and condemn the weaponization of law and the carceral system to silence people of conscience – be they Tarek Bazrouk, Leqaa Kordia, Jakhi McCray, Casey Goonan, and Mumia Abu-Jamal in the US or the Prisoners for Palestine in the UK. We further affirm that the fate of political prisoners is inextricable from the fate of criminalized and imprisoned people in Palestine and around the world.
Take action! Prisoners for Palestine is urging US-based supporters to organize protests and actions at British embassies and consulates, at BBC US offices in NYC and LA, and at Elbit Systems of America facilities. For more ways to take action, read the toolkit for UK Hunger Strikers: https://shorturl.at/kBwT8.
In the words of Qesser Zuhrah, one of the UK hunger strikers, “They won’t imprison us all, they know if they fill the prisons with activists, we will overpower them from within. So flood the damn streets in your millions. Shut down these factories in your thousands! They can never arrest the resistance in our smiles. We will use the shards of our broken hearts to spear the system of injustice.”
As our comrades face death at the hands of the state, we have a duty to heed their calls and take action. We will continue to fight for our political prisoners, no matter the cost. Long live Palestine!
