See Videos: Moratorium NOW! Coalition
These photographs were taken on Sat. Jan. 3, 2026 outside Hart Plaza in Detroit where activists gathered to condemn the United States invasion of the Bolivarian Republic of Venezuela and the kidnapping of President Nicholas Maduro and First Lady Cecilia Flores.
The incident represents a blatant violation of international law and the political desperation of the Trump administration which is losing strength as a result of its economic failures and exposure of sex trafficking of children.
Venezuela contains the largest deposits of hydrocarbons in the world. Trump said that they would attempt to privatize the oil industry in Venezuela and steal their natural resources.
The antiwar and anti-imperialist movements stand in solidarity with the people and government of Venezuela. This action in downtown Detroit was part and parcel of similar actions across the U.S. and the world where the actions of Trump were roundly condemned.
