Youth Empowered in the Struggle has been organizing in Milwaukee Public Schools to put in place a policy that outlines rules and restrictions for School Resource Officers.
School Resource Officers were ordered into MPS through legislation pushed by Republican politicians in the State Legislature, not through the democratic will of the City of Milwaukee.
It is up to us to make sure our schools are not over-policed, to prevent a school to prison pipeline, and to put in place rules and restrictions for School Resource Officers.
School Board President Zombor has introduced a resolution that directs administration to put policy in place which solidifies rules and restrictions for SROs. Youth Empowered in the Struggle with the support of the Milwaukee Teachers’ Education Association helped to craft this resolution and we need your support to make sure it is passed.
Students will be having a rally at 5:30 pm and walk in together to the Legislation, Rules and Policy committee on Tuesday January 20th at 6:30. Please show up and show your support for a policy that protects students from over policing and protects student rights.
