Welcome to Solidarity Saturday! Your weekly highlight reel and your shortcut to staying plugged in.
The unfair labor practice strike is still on, and baristas across the country are holding the line for a real contract, dignity on the job, and accountability for union-busting.
Before we jump into the week’s brew, here’s how you can plug in right now:
Baristas: If you’re ready to organize your store, fill out this form, and our team will support you every step of the way.
Allies: As this historic ULP strike continues, we’re taking the next step and bringing our allies with us. Join us on Monday, February 2, at 8:30 pm ET, alongside labor and progressive leaders, to talk about what’s next in this fight and how we keep building pressure. This is a crucial moment, and we need you in it.
Now, here’s the week’s brew:
LA baristas take on Fair Work Week
Union baristas in LA joined workers from Subway, Taco Bell, and others with the CA Food Workers Union to push for Fair Work Week protections that stabilize schedules and protect workers’ time. New York City has already proved these laws work, as Starbucks was forced to pay out after breaking them hundreds of thousands of times.
Starbucks thinks a 10 to 20 cent raise an hour deserves applause. Rent, groceries, and gas strongly disagree. See one union barista react to the raises and why baristas are pushing for a fair union contract with higher take home pay, better hours, and real on the job protections.
ICYMI: Union Barista Sabina Aguirre in MS NOW
Sabina lays out why baristas are striking for a real union contract and what it will take to win. When workers cannot support themselves long term, struggle to qualify for benefits, and are told to be grateful while their finances sit on a knife’s edge, the stakes are crystal clear.
Starbucks can actually make these the best jobs in retail. Until they do, we’ll keep serving pressure, not profits. And remember, Don’t Buy Starbucks!
In solidarity,
Starbucks Workers United
