The first Monday Corner Protest will take place on Monday, Feb. 2, Hwy’s 20 and 31, 3:00-4:00.
With what we have witnessed in Minneapolis it could just be a matter of time before we see the same incursion by ICE and other federal agencies into our community. Everyone should consider what their feelings are about their immigrant neighbors who could be the target of similar abuse. Think about the policies of the Trump Regime and the tactics employed by ICE. How will we each respond? What can we do? There are different ways of supporting our immigrant neighbors and all people of color being targeted in random efforts to meet deportation quotas. Some have attended webinar training programs and more are being scheduled. Those programs share different ideas as to how people can nonviolently contribute to efforts to support our community’s immigrants and people of color affected by Trump deportation policy. Watch for these programs and check them out.
There are many possible messages for signs this week. The tragedy still occurring just across the Mississippi and in IL are reverberating around us. Protesters in Minneapolis are being credited with making the Regime “blink”, and possibly make some changes. We will see about that. We know that protests are making a difference. In MN and IL, protesters discovered strategies that worked. State Government Leaders worked firmly to mitigate the extreme tactics being used by ICE. If SE Wisconsin becomes a focal point of immigration deportation we will all need to consider our options.
March 28 has been identified for the next nationwide. NO KINGS Protests and we should point to that day, to make a real effort to have an even larger number of protesters that we did the last time. Let’s keep up the momentum and again increase our number from about 1,000 people at the last NO KINGS to much more. Enlisting friends, distributing handouts, and making announcements at group meetings are all possible ways of increasing our numbers on The Corner.
Persevere, Resist, Minneapolis is our north star. Let’s address this authoritarian power grab through people power and Resistance!
