Let’s be clear: AB 446 / SB 445 are censorship bills dressed up as “combating antisemitism.” They import the IHRA “working definition” into Wisconsin policy — a framework widely used to smear criticism of Israel as antisemitic and to pressure public institutions to police political speech, especially speech supporting Palestinian rights.
Antisemitism is real and must be confronted. But these bills don’t do that — they weaponize a real harm to create a chilling effect: people stay silent because they fear discipline, job consequences, or reputational attacks. We can fight antisemitism without adopting a politicized definition that enables viewpoint-based enforcement.
