Dakota and Lakota community members have established a tipi prayer camp at Mni Owe Sni (Coldwater Springs), a sacred site where Dakota people have gathered for generations.
The Whipple Building sits on Fort Snelling — a place marked by deep historical trauma, where 38 Dakota men were hanged on December 26, 1862.
The building is now being used for federal immigration detention.
