GOV. EVERS: VETO THE IHRA BILL

Read the alert below from the American-Arab Anti-Discrimination Committee (ADC) about the imminent passage of WI legislation to stifle and potentially criminalize criticism of Israel by legally defining it as anti-Semitism (the IHRA bill). A cosmetic amendment to the legislation is being proposed which supporters hope will provide political cover for more Democrats, and especially Gov. Evers, to support it. We need you to contact Gov. Evers NOW to insist that he veto this bill if it passes. (Directions below)

Wisconsin lawmakers are rushing SB 445 and AB 446 toward Governor Evers’ desk. If they get there, the governor must veto them—and he needs to hear from Wisconsin residents right now. These bills aren’t about protecting Jewish communities from discrimination. Wisconsin already has laws that do that.

This is about policing political speech and pressuring public institutions to treat pro-Palestine and anti-Israel views as inherently suspect. Legislators just introduced a last-minute “safeguard” amendment. That doesn’t fix the problem. It confirms it.

When a bill needs an emergency disclaimer to claim it won’t criminalize students, it’s a signal that the underlying framework is dangerous.

You can just say something like: “I’m a Wisconsin resident. I’m urging Governor Evers to veto SB 445 and AB 446, the so-called IHRA bills. The newly proposed ‘safeguard’ amendment doesn’t change anything. These bills are a danger to our First Amendment rights and invite viewpoint discrimination.”
