| Wisconsin lawmakers are rushing SB 445 and AB 446 toward Governor Evers’ desk. If they get there, the governor must veto them—and he needs to hear from Wisconsin residents right now. These bills aren’t about protecting Jewish communities from discrimination. Wisconsin already has laws that do that. This is about policing political speech and pressuring public institutions to treat pro-Palestine and anti-Israel views as inherently suspect. Legislators just introduced a last-minute “safeguard” amendment. That doesn’t fix the problem. It confirms it. When a bill needs an emergency disclaimer to claim it won’t criminalize students, it’s a signal that the underlying framework is dangerous.
