Chicago: UE Appeal – Help Save The Solidarity Mural!

United Electrical Workers (UE)

Help us save the mural! The Solidarity Mural is an invaluable piece of our union’s history. When we sold the union building in Chicago, we knew we had to rescue the mural. With your help, we hired experts to literally remove walls, painstakingly separate pieces of the mural, mount them on canvas and restore their vibrance. Unfortunately, we weren’t able to save everything. Some pieces crumbled, and one load-bearing wall could not be removed. These technical difficulties overran our budget, and we’re not done yet.

Fortunately, John Pittman Weber, who is now in his 80s, has agreed to recreate those portions of his and Jose’s original mural that cannot be restored. After John works his magic, the pieces must be carefully framed and transported, so they can be installed in their new homes.

Then we need to re-install portions at our new Chicago home in the Chicago Teachers Union building and at the UE Local 506 hall in Erie, Pennsylvania. Can we count on you to help us finish preserving this vital piece of UE’s history?
