On Sat. Feb. 28, 2026, people gathered at Hart Plaza in downtown Detroit to protest against the United States and Israeli bombing of the Islamic Republic of Iran.
The protest was called by the Anti-Fascist Organizing Coalition (AFOC), Moratorium NOW! Coalition, the Michigan Emergency Committee Against War & Injustice (MECAWI) and supported by the Coalition Against Genocide, among others.
This action was part of the national and international responses to the much-anticipated attempts to overthrow the revolutionary government in Tehran.
During these unprovoked attacks by the U.S. and Israel, the Leader of the Islamic Revolution, Ayatollah Seyyed Ali Khamenei, was martyred.
This year represents the 47th anniversary of the Revolution when the US-backed monarchy of the Shah was overthrown by the masses in Iran in 1979.
The administration of President Donald Trump has again misrepresented the situation in West Asia and is attempting to deflect attention away from the monumental failures of his administration.
The stated reasons behind the attacks by Washington and Tel Aviv have shifted from purported attempts by Iran to build nuclear weapons, to eliminating their ballistic missiles to regime-change. None of these excuses are truthful or legitimate.
Iran has stated repeatedly that it does not have plans to build nuclear weapons, which both the U.S. and Israel possess.
Iran, like any other independent and sovereign state, has the right to defend itself against external attacks.
