Under the Shah’s dictatorship, Iran was a close ally of Israel, but from the 1979 Revolution onwards it has been a staunch – indeed the staunchest – supporter of the Palestinian cause, providing extensive financial, military and logistical support to the resistance.
Under the Shah’s dictatorship, Iran was a close ally of apartheid South Africa, but from the 1979 Revolution onwards it severed relations with the apartheid regime and provided important support to the South African liberation struggle.
Under the Shah’s dictatorship, Iran’s wealth was concentrated in the hands of a few, and its energy resources were placed at the service of foreign multinationals. Revolutionary Iran maintains its natural wealth under public ownership, and uses the revenues for the benefit of the people.
Under the Shah’s dictatorship, Iran was essentially a puppet of US imperialism. Today’s Iran is a crucial link in the Belt and Road Initiative, a member of BRICS, a member of the SCO, and has a close working relationship with China, Russia, Venezuela, Cuba, and other countries opposed to the US-led imperialist order.
This war has nothing to do with nuclear weapons, women’s rights or democratic values. It’s a war on sovereignty. It’s a war on Palestine. It’s a war on China, on Russia, on the Global South. It’s a war for Israel, for colonialism, for apartheid, for the Epstein class, for the perpetuation of the US-led imperialist order.
It’s a war of the 1% against the 99%. As such, the 99% is duty-bound to stand unequivocally with Iran.
