Background: On Wednesday, March 4, 2026 an email was sent by BCHS principal to parents/guardians of students regarding a “History Rocks” assembly planned for Friday, March 6, 2026.
Per the email: “To celebrate America’s upcoming 250th birthday, the US Department of Education is conducting a high-profile tour of all 50 states, selecting only one high school in each state to visit. We are thrilled to announce that Brookfield Central has been chosen as the exclusive representative for the state of Wisconsin!….”

Petition:
Dear Dr Hansen, School Board Members and Principal Gruetzmacher,
I am signing this petition to express my concerns regarding the practice of allowing events that are sponsored by partisan organizations to take place within our public schools. While civic engagement and political awareness are important components of a well-rounded education, hosting events that have any affiliation with partisan organizations can create several challenges that undermine the inclusive and educational environment Elmbrook schools are meant to provide.
Public schools serve students from a wide range of backgrounds, beliefs, and family values. When events are held in any of our schools that have even a hint of partisan politics, it can unintentionally signal institutional endorsement of a particular viewpoint. This risks creating an atmosphere where some students feel marginalized or pressured, rather than supported in forming their own independent perspectives. Elmbrook should always remain neutral and encourage young people learn to think critically.
Additionally, events that have any association with partisan politics can introduce unnecessary division into the school community. Students, staff, and families may already hold differing political beliefs, and bringing any hint of partisan activities into the school setting can heighten tensions or lead to conflict. This can distract from the primary mission of education and disrupt the sense of unity and respect that Elmbrook strives to cultivate.
For these reasons, I respectfully urge the District to CANCEL hosting this assembly “History Rocks” on Friday, March 6 at Brookfield Central High School and consider establishing specific guidelines and acceptance criteria before any outside groups that may be affiliated with partisan politics schedules any activities in our schools. Protecting the neutrality of our public schools helps ensure that all students feel welcome, respected, and free to explore their own beliefs without undue influence.
Thank you for your attention to this important matter. I appreciate your commitment to fostering a positive and inclusive learning environment for all students and adhering to the Elmbrook’s long term policy to stay away from any association with partisan politics.
