Welcome to Solidarity Saturday, your weekly highlight reel and your shortcut to staying plugged in. And while Starbucks is busy calling 911 on their own customers, baristas are busy winning. Like Sam.
When Starbucks cut Sam’s hours, their Seattle store fought back. Because they had a union, Sam won a $2,300 settlement directly from Starbucks. That’s not luck. That’s what a union does.
Union busting is illegal, and Starbucks knows it. Stores with unions have real protections and real mechanisms to fight back against unfair treatment and labor violations. Recently, in New York City, Starbucks had to pay millions to baristas after the city found scheduling violations. That’s money directly into workers’ pockets. When we stand together and fight back, we win.
Ready to bring that power to your store? Organize! We’ll give you the information and support you need to stand up to corporate greed and build the workplace you deserve.
And if you’re an ally, one of the best ways to support striking baristas is to shop our merch store. All profits go directly to our strike fund.
Here’s the week’s brew:
Did you know Pittsburgh has one of the highest densities of union Starbucks stores in the country? And it just got higher. Congratulations to baristas at the Banksville Plaza store, who just won the 21st union Starbucks in Pittsburgh. The Steel City is built different.
Starbucks Workers United members, food service workers, and community allies gathered in St. Louis for the Food Service Workers’ Town Hall to demand a voice on the job and across the industry. The bosses can’t drown this out.
This one isn’t going away. And it shouldn’t. When baristas at a Florida store reported unfair discipline and harassment, regulars and allies showed up. When management pushed back and threatened to kick everyone out, everyone held their ground. Watch it, share it with everyone you know, and show
Starbucks, this is what happens when you mess with workers and their community.
More than 250,000 people have already committed to not buy Starbucks until the company finalizes a fair contract and resolves all pending unfair labor practices. Hold the line, don’t buy Starbucks, Delete the App, spread the word, and keep pushing with us.
In solidarity,
Starbucks Workers United
P.S. The official Merch Store of Starbucks Workers United, a union of Starbucks workers, is where you can grab all your favorite SBWU swag. All profits go to our strike fund! NOTE: We only accept orders from individuals, not businesses or organizations.
