Starbucks baristas are driving a historic union organizing campaign, building real power and taking on one of the most well-known brands in the world. Nearly 700 union elections won. Thousands of workers organized.
In the middle of a fight this big, it can be easy to forget how far we’ve come. And when Starbucks comes back to the table, there’s reason to believe the best is still ahead. Turns out, when workers organize, things actually change. And Starbucks knows it. Your support helped make every single one of these happen:
Credit card tipping in all stores
Expanded paid parental leave as proposed by the union
The ability to pause mobile orders when things get slammed
Faster PTO accrual for all partners
Reinstatement of dozens of wrongfully separated union workers
The return of Pride decorations in union stores where they were banned in 2023
And in the event a store closes, union workers can secure severance, benefits, and transfers through effects bargaining. Workers at non-union stores don’t have that path.
This is what collective power looks like in practice. When Starbucks cut Sam’s hours, they fought back with union support and won a $2,300 settlement directly from the company. That’s not luck. That’s what the union makes possible. See what we’re fighting for next.
The best way to keep showing up? Don’t buy Starbucks, delete the app, and tell your friends and family to do the same. Every dollar withheld sends a message that people stand with the workers behind the counter.
In solidarity,
Starbucks Workers United
