St. Paul Principles: Build the People’s Movement Solidarity! Oppose State Repression!
St. Paul Principles
1. Our solidarity will be based on respect for a diversity of tactics and the
plans of other groups.
2. The actions and tactics used will be organized to maintain a separation of
time or space.
3. Any debates or criticisms will stay internal to the movement, avoiding any
public or media denunciations of fellow activists and events.
4. We oppose any state repression of dissent, including surveillance,
infiltration, disruption and violence. We agree not to assist law enforcement
actions against activists and others.

Comet Workers Set Up Picket Line to Protest Firings, Demand Severance
Comet workers were fired as retaliation for organizing for better, safer conditions. We are demanding severance, as workers were led to believe they would be reopening for in person dining and then fired abruptly when they demanded basic protections.
Comet Cafe workers recently fired for organizing to improve their working conditions held a picket outside BelAir Cantina today to demand severance pay from the owners. Workers presented the owners with a list of demands signed by dozens of employees and three days later they were fired. Comet Cafe is owned by Mojofuco, which also owns BelAir, both Fuel Cafe locations, HiHat Lounge, Finks and other bars and restaurants around Milwaukee.
The action was organized by Milwaukee IWW

Car Caravan to Madison to Demand Health Be Placed Over Profits
Wisconsinites want safe, healthy, and equitable schools and communities! Wisconsin education workers will lead a car caravan to the Capitol to demand Wisconsin State Health Secretary Palm and other elected leaders and government officials do their job! Join the car caravan starting in Kenosha and ending in Madison to demand…
• No in-person schooling until scientific and public-health data supports it
• Police-free schools
• All schools must be supported to function as community schools with adequate numbers of counselors and nurses
• Safe conditions including lower class sizes, PPE, cleaning, testing, and other key protocols
• Equitable access to online learning
• Support for our communities and families, including a moratorium on evictions/foreclosures, direct cash assistance to those unable to work, and other critical social needs
• Moratorium on new charter or voucher programs
• Massive infusion of federal money to support the reopening funded by taxing the billionaires and Wall Street
The car caravan will start in Kenosha at 9:30am and move to Racine by 10:30am, Milwaukee at 11:30am and Madison by 1pm.
Turn your car into a moving billboard with messages that support the demands above. Remember this is a socially distanced event and we want participants to ride alone and not with others.
This action is being hosted by Kenosha Education Association, Leaders Igniting Transformation, Madison Teachers Incorporated, Milwaukee Teachers’ Education Association, Rea-Reaa Unity, Voces de la Frontera, Youth Empowered in the Struggle (YES).
All educators, parents and communities MUST contact their Senators https://educationvotes.nea.org/issue/covid-19/ to demand the resources we need to keep students, staff, families and communities safe. Congress has a national responsibility to act. We support affiliates building coalitions and local support to ensure safe, equitable school re-openings. https://www.demandsafeschools.org We want every student back in school, but only when it’s safe!

Tell Congress to UNBLOCK CUBA!
This is exciting and we must act fast: We have a rare chance to hold — and win — two historic votes in the Congressional House of Representatives rolling back parts of U.S. sanctions on Cuba on food, medicines, and remittances. These are amendments to a spending bill that will be voted on this Tuesday, and we need Rep. McGovern, who is head of the Rules Committee, to allow these amendments to go to the floor for a vote.
Email Rep. McGovern to unblock Cuba and join the social media days of action July 27-29, 2020. Use this toolkit for sample Tweets, graphics, and Facebook and social media posts.

Pandemic Shines Light On Need For Unions Organizing In The Time Of Covid- 19
ALERT – ALL HANDS ON DECK FOR CUBA SOLIDARITY AND ANTI-SANCTIONS ACTIVISTS
Congressional Amendments Introduced to Allow Food, Medicine and Family Remittances to CubaCongressman Bobby Rush proposed the amendments to the appropriations bill that funds sanctions enforcement
**ALERT – ALL HANDS ON DECK FOR CUBA SOLIDARITY AND ANTI-SANCTIONS ACTIVISTS**We have a rare chance to hold — and win — two historic votes in the House of Representatives rolling back parts of Cuba sanctions pertaining to food, medicines and remittances (see explanation below). This is just a first small step to create momentum that will lead us towards defeating the embargo for once and for all. See below the actions for full details on the amendments and the context. We can make these initial wins happen if we are prepared to fully activate our networks on Monday 7/27 to convince Rep. McGovern and again on Wednesday 7/29 to ensure we overwhelmingly win the vote. What you can do RIGHT NOW:1. Get your organization to endorse the amendments (fill out form)2. Sign the CODEPINK petition calling on Rep. McGovern to allow a vote on the amendments: https://www.codepink.org/unblockcuba3. Reach out to your Congressional representatives in the House (even over the weekend if you have pre-existing contacts) to urge them to cosponsor. Follow up all week until you get a response.4. Prepare your organization to send out mass blasts to email lists and social media first thing Monday AM. If you are an individual, CODEPINK will do a blast and a petition Monday morning that you can share.5. Tweet about the amendments and the need for a vote.*Be sure to tag @RepJimMcGovern @RulesDemocrats @SpeakerPelosiOR SIMPLY RETWEET https://twitter.com/lyciaora/status/1287156108407320579Trump’s tightening of embargo against #Cuba in middle of a pandemic is cruel.Pass the 2 amendments proposed by @RepBobbyRush to remove sanctions on food & medicine & end caps on family remittances.BACKGROUND INFORMATION:Congressional Amendments Introduced to Allow Food, Medicine and Family Remittances to CubaCongressman Bobby Rush proposed the amendments to the appropriations bill that funds sanctions enforcementCongressman Bobby Rush (D-IL) has introduced two amendments to roll back aspects of sanctions on Cuba to the Financial Services and General Government (FSGG) section of the minibus spending bill. Rush’s amendments would prohibit the use of funds to enforce sanctions related to selling, delivering, transporting or providing food and medicine, as well as the ability to enforce caps on family remittances to Cuba. The amendments are listed on the website of the Rules Committee, which is chaired by Rep. Jim McGovern — a longtime advocate against sanctions on Cuba. It is largely up to Rep. McGovern to make the final decision about whether the amendments come up for a vote in the House of Representatives. There are concerns, however, that Democratic leadership may seek to prevent the House from voting on these amendments, so McGovern’s support is critical. While Cuba reports one of the lowest rates of confirmed Covid-19 in Latin America, severe shortages of food and medicine have hit the island, largely as a result of a defensive shutdown and a virtual lack of foreign tourism.Rush’s first amendment would prohibit enforcement of sanctions against companies shipping food and medicine to Cuba, which has happened as recently as May 2020. Rush’s second amendment would roll back the 2019 Trump policy restricting remittances to only $1,000 every three months. This amendment would revert to the Obama-era remittance policy of not setting dollar amounts. Some 40 percent of Cuban-Americans send remittances, according to the widely respected FIU poll, while 56 percent of Cubans on the island depend on remittances, according to a recent independent study.Remittances have been a hot topic for South Florida Democrats with substantial Cuban-American constituencies. When the Trump decision was announced, even South Florida Congressional representatives Kathy Castor and Debbie Mucarsel-Powell spoke out forcefully against the decision.“I am very concerned that the Cuban people and their U.S. relatives will suffer unnecessarily because of the Trump administration’s sanctions,” Rep. Mucarsel-Powell (D-Fla.) said. “There are hundreds of thousands of Cuban Americans who live in South Florida and in my district, who would like to continue supporting their families back in Cuba.”“Trump’s harsh policy will do nothing but bring pain to families, hurt the growing Cuban private sector, alienate our closest allies and diminish our ability to promote democracy and human rights in Cuba,” said U.S. Rep. Kathy Castor, D-Fla. “Trump’s restrictions on the amount of money Cuban Americans can send to their family members in Cuba is particularly cruel at a time when the administration has in essence closed the door to Cuban refugees and asylum seekers.”More recently, the Trump Administration’s plan to prohibit remittances from going through the Cuban entity FINCIMEX led Rep. Donna Shalala to condemn the action. “If Trump effectively cuts off remittances in the middle of a pandemic, it will not only be cruel to the Cubans on the island but their families – many of my constituents – in the US.”
Fifteen Reasons to Support The BDS Movement for Justice In Palestine
by Palestinian BDS National Movement
Fifteen Reasons to support the BDS movement for Palestinian rights on its 15th anniversary:
- Because BDS is an ethical appeal from the largest coalition of Palestinians living under Israel’s military occupation, apartheid, and denial of refugees’ right.
- Because BDS works!
- Because I believe in a world with equal rights for all and not privileges for some.
- Because I was against apartheid in South Africa and will not accept apartheid in Palestine.
- Because my government, as well as corporations and institutions based in my country, are complicit in Israel’s crimes against Palestinians.
- Because I am against all forms of oppression and discrimination.
- Because I want to stop corporate complicity in human rights violations.
- Because I support the rights of all Indigenous peoples, including Palestinians, over their ancestral lands, cultural heritage and natural resources.
- Because I support the global struggle against racism in all its forms, and so does BDS.
- Because I believe in people’s power to change the world.
- Because I stand against pinkwashing, greenwashing, faith-washing, sport-washing, art-washing or otherwise whitewashing Israeli apartheid.
- Because I believe that no state, including Israel, should be granted impunity for violating international law and human rights.
- Because Palestinian liberation is organically tied to the struggles in my country for Indigenous, social, racial, economic, gender, and climate justice.
- Because I subscribe to Martin Luther King’s words that ethically-consistent boycotts entail “withdrawing our cooperation from an evil system,” and that is a basic moral obligation.
- Because I cannot and will not stay silent while Israel perpetrates war crimes and crimes against humanity, including apartheid, ethnic cleansing, collective punishment, detention of prisoners of conscience, and the siege and massacres in Gaza.
