At the root of all these issues is the system of capitalism. And, only a grand struggle can push back the fascist threat, unite working people of all nationalities against war and for a working peoples’ program for our needs. Without principled political unity, one built around programmatic demands and one determined to uproot the fascist and white supremacist threat, such a struggle is impossible. It is up to all progressive and revolutionary people and organizations to fight through the morass and political differences to begin to forge what is necessary. In Defense of Our Lives

Help Stop The Gutting of the Clean Water Act! Water IS Life!

Midwest Environmental Advocates

A NEW WATER rule will greatly reduce federal water protections, imperiling drinking water, endangered species, and ecosystems across the country. According to the rule that the Environmental Protection Agency is expected to release next week — some details of which were leaked Thursday — streams that are dependent on rainfall and wetlands not physically connected to year-round waterways will no longer be covered by the Clean Water Act.

As a result of the change, an estimated 60-90 percent of U.S. waterways could lose federal protections that currently shield them from pollution and development, according to Kyla Bennett, director of science policy at Public Employees for Environmental Responsibility. Alaska and the arid west will be hit particularly hard by the new rule, which will be subject to a comment period before it is finalized.

Environmentalists are bracing for what they predict will be disastrous consequences for our nation’s waterways. “For some parts of the country, it’s a complete wiping away of the Clean Water Act,” said Brett Hartl, government affairs director at the Center for Biological Diversity.

December 11, 2018: Bilingual WEBINAR presented by the Honduras Solidarity Network, Roots of the Exodus: from the Honduran political crisis to the Refugee caravan- an update

Please join this Honduras Solidarity Network webinar with Honduran journalist, former opposition congressman, and human rights defender, Bartolo Fuentes who was accompanying the Refugee Caravan until he was detained by Guatemalan officials and deported to Honduras. Bartolo began his activism as a young student and was forced to leave Honduras for a time due to political persecution for his opposition to the US wars in Central America. Bartolo has been active for years on migration and was one of the founders of the Honduran organization COFAMIPRO (Committe of the Families of Disappeared Migrants of Progreso). After the 2009 coup, Bartolo joined the resistance movement and organizations and was elected to Congress 2014-2017 as a member of the anti-coup party LIBRE. After his deportation from Guatemala this fall, the Honduran regime threatened to prosecute Bartolo for human trafficking because of his accompaniment and advocacy for the Honduran refugees and his opposition to the current regime. He has had to seek refuge outside Honduras.

You must register to participate. The webinar will be done using the Zoom webinar platform in Spanish.

Simultaneous English interpretation provided by Matt Ginsberg-Jaeckle will be available by calling +1 (619) 309-1058, PIN 695050. This is made possible by our comrades at Interoccupy.
