Hosted by Milwaukee IWW
814 W Wisconsin Avenue, Milwaukee Public Library, 5 – 6:30 p.m.
Two IWW members will be at Milwaukee Central Library, 814 W. Wisconsin, meeting room 2A, on Monday, September 10, 5:00-6:30 PM. They will be working on some of the activity they regularly do for the Incarcerated Workers Organizing Committee, supporting the campaign against arbitrary regulations at Columbia Correctional, coalition efforts to shutdown the Milwaukee Secure Detention Facility, and connecting different networks inside prison walls. Our work includes research, writing letters, data entry, and developing ideas for disrupting the horror that is the Wisconsin prison system. Come by if you want to see what’s involved with this organizing, ask questions, and maybe get involved in this. Free coffee and snacks are provided. Let us know if you need a ride to be able to attend. This gathering will be followed by our strategy meeting at 6:30, visitors are welcome to attend this as well.

On September 8th we will meet at Gordon Park, and in true RBG fashion, we will add the letter “S” to the Gordon Park sign on the corner of Locust & Humboldt, making it read “Gordon Parks” in honor of Gordon Parks noted photographer, musician, writer, and film director, ergo, The Gordon Parks Ride. Good times to be had by all! Come, Ride & Enjoy!!

A group of 10 bipartisan representatives introduced a House Resolution (H. Res. 993) calling on Congress to ensure that the Postal Service would not be subject to privatization.
114 members have cosponsored the resolution and we need 218 cosponsors to achieve a majority! If we hit that milestone, it will make it even more unlikely that Congress will try to use the legislative process to privatize USPS.

Listen to the Sat. Aug. 18, 2018 edition of the Pan-African Journal: Worldwide Radio Broadcast hosted by Abayomi Azikiwe, editor of the Pan-African News Wire. The program features reports on Zimbabwe, Namibia, the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC) and Ghana. The second and third hours will be dedicated to the life, times and contributions of Queen of Soul Aretha Franklin who joined the ancestors on Wed. Aug. 16, 2018. We listen to a rare recording of a concert given by Aretha in Amsterdam in 1968. In addition we review some of the early recordings of the Queen of Soul when she was a teenager singing at New Bethel Baptist Church. Later we re-examine the influence of Rev. C.L. Franklin on the artistic and social development of Aretha.

Don’t let Trump’s latest move fool you: Children are still being jailed, and they’re still being separated from their families–both at the border and at ICE detention facilities across the country. Demand the Trump Administration stop caging children and jailing their parents IMMEDIATELY — and reunite jailed children with their families. Families belong together, and free!
SIGN PETITION: https://tinyurl.com/y8m4ynpo
President Trump created a humanitarian crisis by separating thousands of children from their families and jailing them. But Trump’s Executive Order signed on June 20th is not the solution; it simply jails whole families indefinitely and does nothing to reunite families that have already been torn apart. Children belong with their families and in communities, not in cages or behind bars in even worse conditions.
The Trump administration is causing lifelong trauma to children — whether taken by Border Patrol, jailed alongside their parents after seeking safety, or snatched from their school by ICE. Their claims of compassion are false — this crisis is proof that this administration does not care about the wellbeing of children or families. Families deserve to seek asylum without fear of jail or family separation.
Our demand is clear and not negotiable: Trump’s policies of caging children and jailing their parents must be stopped immediately — and families must be reunited!
