Rev. Dr. Alex Gee from Madison on the new Black Excellence Center: ‘On Juneteenth (2024), we broke ground and we will continue to break the mold!’

Email from Rev. Dr. Alex Gee:

Dear Friends,

I am overwhelmed and humbled by the excitement, energy, and black joy on display during The Center’s Groundbreaking Celebration. It was wonderful to be together in community on Juneteenth and to celebrate our rich heritage, honor our resilience, and envision a vibrant future together.

Sharing a glimpse of the Black creative expression, Black talent, and Black cultural connection that The Center will elevate was special beyond words. Together on Juneteenth, we began to bring our vision to life! Thank you for making this a momentous day, one that will certainly go down in history. Whether you were there in person, in spirit, or via Facebook Live, your energy and support were felt.

Many people have been asking how they can help or get involved. We will continue to keep you updated through eUpdates. Please join us on Facebook, Instagram, and LinkedIn – you’ll see photos and coverage from the event.

Many of you have donated to our capital build, and we appreciate you! If folks are moved to do more, we need you to help us finish out our campaign. We are SO close! We are still raising funds for a debt-free building and a strong opening in late 2025. Donations will be used to complete construction, hire staff, develop innovative programs and launch a successful Center.

As we affirm our commitment to excellence, to culture and to each other, we are making history and we are building a legacy together.

Peace,
Rev. Dr. Alex Gee
