Transit Equals Access. Access Equals Jobs!
During Scott Walker’s tenure as Milwaukee County Executive and Wisconsin Governor, funding for transit has been cut by at least 10%. Fares have doubled, and over 40,000 jobs became inaccessible by transit.
-Our transit system gets Milwaukee County Workers to their jobs.
-Transit helps elders and people with disabilities maintain their independence and mobility.
-Transit fosters a healthy local economy. The Wisconsin Department of Transportation (WISDOT) determined that for every dollar invested in public transportation, $3.00 to $4.00 in benefits is generated for the community.
-Transit contributes to better community health and safety by promoting walkable communities, reducing roadway congestion and driver stress, and mitigating air pollution.
-Public Transportation gets the workers of Milwaukee County to their jobs, with upwards of 39% of riders taking the bus to work. Local transit creates work and helps people keep the jobs they have.
TRANSIT IS VITAL TO OUR INFRASTRUCTURE.
PUBLIC TRANSPORTATION IS A WIN-WIN FOR THE ENTIRE COMMUNITY.
March for full funding for transit!
