Tell Costco: Be Fair to Pizza Workers!
  • Workers at Palermo’s Pizza have been on strike for safer conditions and union recognition for nearly 2 months. Palermo’s fired 75 dedicated employees in the face of unfair labor practice charges currently under investigation. A national boycott of all Palermo products has been called for until this labor dispute is resolved. This Sunday morning, join striking Palermo workers, students from the United States Student Association (USSA) and Youth Empowered in the Struggle (YES), and Voces de la Frontera, an…d other groups at the Costco in Middleton, WI.We will ask Costco (Palermo’s largest retailer) to respect this dispute, defend the right to organize, and stop selling Palermo products until its workers are treated fairly. Costco currently buys about 60% of Palermo products, and sells Palermo’s frozen pizza under the name Kirkland.

At 9:30 am, we will be holding a mass action to highlight Palermo’s worker abuses and distribute information on the boycott to Costco customers when the store opens at 10 am. A press conference will be held at 9:45 am.

USSA is the country’s oldest, largest, and most inclusive national student-led organization. They will be coordinating their national conference in Madison this weekend to join supporters of the Palermo Workers Union at Costco on Sunday.
