From Detroit Eviction Defense and People Before Banks:

We had a great turnout at the Rally Wednesday to kick off our campaign calling for a moratorium on foreclosures by Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac. The federal government now operates these failed mortgage investors, but Fannie and Freddie still refuse to reduce mortgage principal to market value to keep families in their homes. The rally featured six homeowners who have successfully resisted foreclosure and eviction, or are still in the struggle to save their homes.

Among them was Robert Goss of Troy.

Like many thousands of metro-area homeowners, Mr. Goss was laid off by the auto company he worked for and fell behind on his mortgage.  The loan is owned by Freddie Mac and serviced by CitiMortgage.  Mr. Goss immediately applied to CitiMortgage for a loan modification and the bank agreed to a trial modification. For the next 22 months, Mr. Goss made timely payments on the mortgage while awaiting the expected permanent modification. Instead, he discovered that CitiMortgage had quietly taken his home at sheriff’s auction on Freddie Mac’s behalf, while still accepting his payments on the trial modification for five months.
Mr. Goss filed a lawsuit for breach of contract and other legal violations. Even though his case is open and pending in federal court, Freddie Mac is now trying to evict him in a lower court.
