Milwaukee, October 15: Walking Tour of UW-Milwaukee, A History Of Resistance

EVENT: http://tinyurl.com/jw7244m

A walking tour through the UW-Milwaukee campus that will go beyond the sanitized history offered by the official campus tours. Instead, the tour will explore the buildings and spaces of UW-Milwaukee as sites of struggle, organizing and conflict, and present context on how the campus has never been as “quiet” or “apological” as is assumed. The tour will explore sites of resistance, including the 1970 student strike, the 1979 protests over the naming of the Golda Meir Library, the 1991 counter-protest against the Pro-American rally, the 2000 “political chalking rally” and the 2011 student walkout. This tour is free and open to the public. The tour will gather at the campus Library, 2311 E. Hartford, by the whiteboard near the Library Grind. The tour will depart by 1:10, and will end by 2:30 PM.
