October 6: Call-In Day To Milwaukee District Attorney John Chisholm, Justice For Dontre Hamilton NOW

This Monday, October 6, the Coalition for Justice is calling on all concerned community members to call and email DA John Chisholm and to DEMAND MPD Officer Christopher Manney be immediately arrested and charged with MURDER.

On April 30, 2014 Dontre Hamilton was resting in Red Arrow Park. Twice the police were called to ‘investigate’ this man, and both times it was concluded that he was within his legal rights to be resting in a public park. Soon after, beat cop Christopher Manney started to harass Dontre for a third time. Minutes later, Manney shot Dontre 14 times, killing him in cold blood. Although Manney claims that Dontre hit him with his own billy club, there has been no injury report provided and eye witness accounts cannot confirm that Dontre ever struck him. It’s been 5 months since Dontre was murdered and still Manney’s name has yet to be ‘publicly’ released. He is currently on “administrative leave” and is still being paid. This case has undergone several investigations due to new legislation that requires all officer involved deaths be investigated by a third party, but the Hamilton family has had no say in which agencies investigate Dontre’s death. DA Chisholm has a history of covering up the killings of our black youth, such as in the case of 16 year old Corey Stingley who was murdered by 3 white vigilantes almost two years ago. Despite clear video evidence, the DAs office has decided not to charge these three men. Stingley’s family is still fighting for justice. We as a community need to hold our public officials accountable. The evidence is VERY clear. Dontre Hamilton was an innocent man with a loving family and his life was stolen from him by a person we the people legally allow to carry and utilize a fire arm, by a person who is sworn to serve and protect. This is more than a case of ‘excessive use of force.’ This is murder. We will no longer tolerate this senseless slaughter of innocent people on our streets! NO JUSTICE, NO COMPROMISE!
