Madison, Feb. 4: Do we have a mayor accountable to Black Madison? #blacklivesmatter

EVENT: http://tinyurl.com/nl7xtsa

Time: 5:30pm

Where: Fountain of Life Church

What: We demand that Madison, WI builds the people not the jail. Madison is statistically the worst city, in the worst county, to live if you are a black person. Join us and come demand that our voices are heard, that whoever is to be our next Mayor doesn’t just show “support” for Madison’s Black community, but helps us make a difference. Our elected representatives must be held accountable for any policies that contribute to state violence against Black communities. We must make sure we have a mayor that will initiate black positive policies that build our communities.

There is power in numbers.

Will you stand with us?

Madison, Feb. 4: EMERGENCY MEETING: BUDGET BATTLE

EVENT: http://tinyurl.com/ojhuwn5

This is an emergency meeting open to ALL interested members of the campus community (and beyond) to 1) discuss the proposed $300 million cut to the UW and the quasi-privatization of the UW system and 2) figure out a way we can most effectively defend our university and ourselves from the attack.

The cut will predictably lead to layoffs, wage stagnation and decline, reductions in student services, and the degradation of educational quality. The new structural changes threaten the integrity of shared governance, reduce student and faculty control, open the doors to runaway tuition increases, and otherwise increase managerial authority to the detriment of workers and students on campus. This is what the Administration has been working for in some form or another since 2011 with the failed New Badger Partnership and then the Human Resources Design Project, both of which we opposed.

The only option is to organize and fight. Join us on Wednesday!

Held in Humanities 2650

Feb. 18, 2011 at the University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee.

Milwaukee, Feb. 3: Junta Comunitaria – ¡Alto a colaboración entre el alguacil e Inmigración! / Community Meeting: Stop Sheriff/ICE Collaboration!

EVENT: http://tinyurl.com/mfb75ce

English below

Milwaukee County Sheriff David Clarke has detained hundreds of immigrants for ICE. The executive action announced by Pres. Obama last September narrowed the circumstances in which ICE is supposed to be collaborating with local police. Our community must be vigilant to make sure our Sheriff complies. Also, we have to fight to put an end to all collaboration between local police and ICE. ICE out of Milwaukee!

Tuesday, February 3 at 6:30pm, we will meet about this at Ascension Lutheran Church (corner of 27th St. and Scott St.). We will have a bilingual interfaith prayer vigil in solidarity with people affected by deportation at 6:30, and after that we will meet to discuss putting an end to collaboration between ICE and the Sheriff. Can you join us?
